I got to the range with the 14" HP9-1.

I was mainly concerned with testing it's feed and extraction prior to installing the aftermarket parts I've bought for it (gotta love that Marstar guarantee).

I fired 125 rounds of birdshot, 20 slugs and 20 rounds of buck shot.

It performed flawlessly. No feed or extraction problems.

There were a couple of kids (12 year olds) there with their Dads who graciously burned off about 100 rounds of the birdshot for me (saved my shoulder :D )

The action is not silky smooth but it should smooth out with more use. None of the kids appeared to short stroke it though a couple of times they had to struggle with pulling back on the forend. I had no problems with working the action quickly.

The recoil, even with 1 oz slugs and Win Supreme 2 3/4" OO buck was very manageable, even during rapid fire (3 slugs, 2.8 seconds). None of the kids had any problems with the recoil with birdshot. Most of them were hitting hand thrown clays on a regular basis.

One of the boys looked at his Dad and said "I'm going to buy one of these!". :D

The muzzle flash with the slugs was visible but the muzzle blast wasn't bad. A couple of guys came out to see what I was shooting so it must have been loud.

I had read about the bead being lost during firing. I checked it before we started shooting. It was tight and the stem did not extend into the barrel. The bead stayed put during this brief session. Wilson Trac Locs will be installed next.

I shot a standing, freehand 3.5", 5 shot group at 25 yards. I wasn't really trying for accuracy and rattled the string off fairly quickly.

Overall, a fine little shotgun and worth every penny of the $390 (taxes and shipping included). Very handy to shoot and maneuver in tight spots. Once the ghost ring sights are installed, I'll try to shoot some real groups with it and then try it out in the Dangerous Game Match.

Nothing wrong with a Maverick 88. It just doesn't have that 14" barrel.

I'm going to name my 14" Norinco - Rosie O'Donnel because it's short, heavy, loud and rude. :D

Here's Rosie with the Wilson +1 magazine extension added.

So why is it exactly that the Norky 870 shotty clones go up in price as the barrel gets shorter?

Difference in mag tube length...thus more Remington compatible for aftermarket parts.

Because they think they can get away with it...ie Marketing.

Also if we had more dealers bringing these in the price would probably be lower due to competition among dealers.

I got the HP9-1 back from my gunsmith.

Here are some pics.

I'm having trouble uploading images tonight. I'll post a couple more tomorrow.

Trac-Loc sights plus Winchokes (cylinder and modified).

I find it very enjoyable to shoot, even with heavy loads.

With the modified choke it puts all 12 OO buck pellets (Winchester 2 3/4" buffered) into 5" at 7 yards.

I don't like the TLR-1 mounted in that position as I am hitting it every 6 or 7th time. If I don't improve with it with practice then I'll get a Surefire forend.

The Wilson +1 extension does not stay on. After 5 or six rounds it loosens up. Any suggestions? Low strength Loctite?

That looks pretty good, do you have some pics of the chokes? I am tryin gto decide between Remchokes and the Winchokes for mine.
It looks to me like the light attachment goes between the extension and barrel band...with the light attachment is there still a ball detent to keep it all locked down? It should stay put unless the detent isn't there and then it will come loose.
Cheers

I'm out of town but will post some pics of the chokes and their flush with the muzzle fit when I get back home.

There isn't a ball detente on the cap, it's just threaded. I screwed it on finger tight as hard as I could but could always put a padded vise grip to it.

I will also try it without the light mount and see if it still loosens.

Those Trac Locs make it reall easy to vaporize 4 litre milk jugs with slugs.
