Which Bullet?

I still have my original Winchester Model 70 bolt action .300 Win Mag. that's the first rifle I bought myself 26 years ago. I love it and it's always been my go to all around rifle. It's getting a little tired and I'm thinking of picking up a new Styre Pro Hunter in the same caliber. I haven't reloaded in YEARS but I think I'll break out all the supplies and try playing again. My favorite bullet has been the Barnes X bullet in 180 grain hollow point. I want to stick to that weight but I'm sure there have been many advancements. Any recommendations? I'd like an accurate hard hitting, bone crushing close to long range bullet. In other words, I'm looking for the holy grail of bullets. Lol. Does it exist? .......and is there an easier way to find your optimal load? Suggestions? Thanks.

Personally, I am a huge fan of accubonds and I use a 180 gr. Accubond in my .300...... Very adaptable at all ranges and velocities from the results I have seen....

But there are many options out there and I am sure others will chime in on their preferences as well....
 
I use 180gr AB's in my 300WM reloads since 2005. I had the TSX but liked the performance of the AB's better. I would go with either the TTSX or AB's. There is the new LRAB in 190gr...might be another to consider. I use RL22 with Federal 215GM primers.
 
Another vote for the Accubond, I haven't used them in a 300WM but have been impressed with them in my 06' and 308.
 
You already have the bullet you're looking for but if you want a "newer" bullet, get be TTSX. That is all I use.
 
Only thing with the Barnes is they need velocity to expand....heavier bullet means lower starting velocity, which means shorter effective range.
For example the 180 TTSX at 2900fps will drop to 2200fps at 400yrds which is around the lowest reliable expansion velocity.
The 150TTSX at 3200fps drops to 2200fps at 500yrds.
 
If you already like the Barnes the easy thing would be to load up some TSXs.

Having said that, I'll vote with the others and go with the 180 Accubonds. You mention hard hitting? You'll see a difference. I've used this bullet more in the RUM than the Win Mag but the difference isn't as much as you'd think. I used it on feral cull, plus deer, moose, Asiatic buffalo, an over sized scrub bull and most recently a grizzly with Ardent. Probably close to 60 animals give or take a few. You'll still be getting violent expansion at ranges where just about everyone should think about quitting. Most of the time you can use the cheaper Ballistic tip interchangeably for lower cost practice and most hunting as far as that goes.
 
^^^ Or you could just get Noslers and call it good: Accubonds or Partitions.

The Accubond is the best all-around bullet going, while the Partition has been the measuring stick for like 50+ years.

Supposedly the Solid Base is okay too, but the only time I tried them. Allegedly they are supposed to be super accurate but I couldn't coax it out of them.
