Ruger Precision Rifle mag feed problem

Hi,

I just got my new Ruger Precision Rifle in 6.5MM Creedmoor.

In about 10% of my bolt cycling to feed a round in the chamber it ends up in either:
No round being chambered (round stay in the magazine). When it happens, a scratch is visible on the brass
or round being wrongly picked up + jam + bump in the brass. Removing the magazine, replacing the round in the mag and it works well after. The bump is "removed" once fired since it expands.

Someone at the range had the same rifle but in 308 and had the same problem. He was feeding the round manually instead of with the mag to bypass the problem.

I wrote to Ruger about it and I am waiting for an answer.

Does anyone else have this problem ?

The canadian version 18006 instead of 18005 came with metallic 308 mags that are hard to feed instead of the one that they have in the states. I Wonder if the problem is just with this specific model of mag or if it's a design problem.
They are so hard to feed that the 9th and 10th round are getting scratched and bumped sometime.

Since it was my first day at the field, it was brand new full sized brass. The problem with filling the mag may be worst the next time since the brass will be bigger, I will do a neck size only.

While waiting for Ruger's answer, I was wondering if many people had the same problem.

Thanks in advance

I have it in my .243 it's very annoying and ruger won't help me. The warranty centre ignores all my emails. I sent it back once before because the ejector was broken from the factory.

I have the metal mags as well and I haven't seen this problem. Based on what you are describing it sounds like the mag isn't seating high enough. Hope you can get it solved...

If you have the same and they work well, I guess it might be a bad batch... I will wait for Ruger's answer but will try to adjust them, if it doesnt get anywhere. Like bsand said, maybe the feed lips need adjustment

I have one in 6.5 Creedmoor with about 300 rounds down it. It came with the Ruger steel Accurate Mag magazines and I haven’t had any issues with feeding but they were pretty stiff at first and if I forced 10 in they wouldn’t strip the first one off.

Out of curiosity I tried a few other mags as well;
Magpul PMag, fed fine but has a shorter max cartridge length than I like on my reloads,
Ruger Scout plastic mag, wouldn’t lock up in the rifle, I did some research and it seems they don’t lock up in the Scout rifles well either
Accuracy International AICS, wouldn’t lock up in the rifle, it looks like they are a mm or 2 to long front to back

The 2 "accurate mag" mags I recieved with my RPR in 6.5 had super sharp lips that scratched the hell outta my brass until I sanded them. And twice in 60 rounds this weekend I had the rounds hang up and fail to strip. Possibly needs to be broke in better? Also these rifles will feed from AIA enfield 10rounders

Adjust the feed lips, I had similar issues with Accurate mags in my cadex chassis. A little bend up and good to go. All I did was insert case head between lips and bent up.

Great to hear about them AIA Enfield 10 rounders... now how about the AIA "wannabe" mags by Elander and sold by Wolverine Supplies? Any experiences out there??

Cheers

I don't know if they need adjustment - they are new out of the box right? It never hurts to try but I didn't adjust anything on mine and they fed all of my loads perfectly. Maybe you could buy a 5 rd PMAG to try. If the problem repeats with the PMAG than it is shouldn't be the mags.

Had similar negative experience with ruger sevral years ago with a mini 14. I now try to steer clear.
