12.5" or 14" barrel for 870

Wild West and P&D in Edmonton had some 14" barrels while I was there the last couple months. Could try giving them a call.

Bead sight was usually $125.

Did you think they were going to go down in price? Remington made it quite clear to importers that there would be no more 14" barrels getting exported. A year and a half ago you could ask (and get) $400 for a genuine Remington 14". That's why I grabbed a couple @ $150. One is on a gun and the other 2 are on a shelf in their boxes waiting for future projects

This right here ^^^^^^... for all of those bytching about how much they cost - you all had the chance to buy when they were $150. I bought 3 for the same reason, one on a gun, one on the shelf and one to my hunting partner for his camp gun...

I've been pleased with my 3 x 12.5" DA barrels.
Especially the most recent one which is threaded for chokes that I picked up for $60...

Not at all. I have all the shorty bbl's I need. But A $100 mark up is a huge jump for a 2 month period. Just saying.

For $250, you can get a CanAm 12.5" bbl ($80) and get a remington pedestal sight put on at Tac Ord ($20) AND get it threaded for RemChokes ($60) and still have close to $100 left over.

Puts things in perspective.

The Can Am $80 barrels are the ones with the pistol front sight post and the bead sights are listed at $150 .... Not sure if that makes a difference in the ease of changing the front sight ..... But I believe some of the D.A. Barrels already are threaded for chokes (not Remington chokes but maybe Winchester? It's stated on one of the 12.5 barrel threads).

The current ones are not threaded for chokes but have enough meat to do so. Also can am gets them threaded for win-choke for some awful reason, whenever they get threaded ones.

The type of front sight installed now doesn't much matter. Tac ord would have to remove the old sight either way and silver solder on a new one, then clean up any excess solder. I'd just get whichever one is cheaper and have the mods made.

Send them the whole gun as they can correct any minor sight alignment issue at the same time, which is really the only common issue with these barrels.

If you already run remchokes it makes little sense to invest in a Winchester set.

I would have preferred Rem chokes for my DA 12.5", as I have a number of them already. But I have a lot of Invector chokes from the Turkish shotguns I also own so I have lots of options by having those already.

I like using a full choke with the 12.5" barrel as it keeps cheap birdshot tighter.
