Looking a buying a Magnetospeed v3 and wondering who carrys them in canada? Has anyone tried a sporter model on a 1.25" barrel to see if can actually be done the company says no but some guys have said it can be done?

As a SR BR shooter and what we look for in regards to tuning a rifle this is my question.

Why would anyone want to hang something off of the end of the barrel like the Magnetospeed as a chronograph? It would be just good for determining velocity. You could not load develop accurately with it hanging off of the barrel. It's effects would be the same as a tuner.

The only way to go would be an Oehler or a Lab Radar.

It's only for measuring velocity. Nothing more. If you think you're going to try an shoot groups and develop a load with one of these hanging off your barrel....I want what you're smoking!

Just want to check load ES's for a stable accuracy node. Before i start adjusting my barrel tuner. Not expecting to do a load development with it on, just collect data. Labradars seem like a good idea but dont want to spend that kinda cash on it and i like the simple set up of the magnetospeed.

That's all it's meant for. And it's a really good choice. Good luck in your search.

They work well. You could load extra rounds to check velocity then shoot groups. If range is busy magnetospeed is nice. Easy to set up . Windy day don't have to worry about chronograph being blown over.

I'm curious what actual experience either of you have with a magnetospeed?

So far with three hunting rifles and two heavy barreled AR's, loads that shoot with the magnetospeed on the barrel will shoot with it off, the reverse also being true.

Have you fellows found otherwise?

I've used it on 5 of my rifles. Data entry for different loads is all I use it for.

So having the magnetospeed on the barrel changes the group size of good or bad loads in your experience?

Grouse River. Good prices and they sponsor our Alberta Poker Rally!

Yes it does change your POI and group sizes. I use mine during my load development after seeing what my best groups are to confirm my velocities and ES/SD. Just done put it on when shooting for groups. Easy set up, fast, and you never have to close down a firing line to set it up. WAY more accurate than my old RCBS junk.

You cannot hang it on the barrel and expect the point of impact to be the same or remain where you figured it should. THat being said however, it is incredibly fast and easy to set up with no having to ask other shooters to hold on while you run 10 or 12 feet in front as with my Shooting Chorny. It's readout screen has a memory card that collects all the data for later use as well as displaying the info for each shot, and I understand it does the statistics for you as well.

No real issue in my mind, to sight in or develop loads then shoot some for velocity readings separately.

The one other sometimes mentioned is the Labradar chronograph, and while I have no personal experience with them, I was at the range one day while a guy was trying unsuccessfully to get his to work. Just like anything I guess, and that was the reason I went for a Gamma Shooting Chrony in the first place...mine has always worked, just like the old Oehler before it.

I've watched a couple of you tube vids where it's been done. I like the sporter version also... Especially the price.
