This.... the white edges give it away... Also, the Hog Deer has a tail somewhat similar to whitetail..... unlike this critter....

Conor is right that there is no Native deer although a tip is its a Game species not a Pest species

Not many Game species and a few Pest species, although theres only a fine line saving this buggers reputation now days.

I actually spotted his left ear first.
If you look carefully, it's possible to see both ears, and the entire face. A fine tribute to the ability of deer in general to vanish in even light brush.
Sambar I think.
