Hi All,

I have a 30-06 Mauser with a ~20 inch heavy barrel. I really like the rifle, the one caveat is that it's heavy for the caliber. Since I just got another lighter 30-06 I'm tempted to rebore it to a big thumper. From my research the 9.32x62 looks promising. Is this something possible with the barrel length that I have?

Also, who can do this type of work in Canada? I found Ron Smith using the search function. Is there anyone in BC that will do a good job with a descent turnaround time?

*Rebarelling isn't an option since I have a brand new barrel with some very nice necg sights.

Thanks,

Mik

What about selling the barrel you've got and getting a new one in .366? Seems like reboring a barrel is expensive and time consuming...

The barrel blank and sights alone were about $780. I doubt I could get anywhere near that if I sold it. A new barrel, sights, cerakote, and fees I'd probably be looking at $1000. Reboring seems to be the cheaper option.

Thanks for the heads up. It's a little pricey but then again this rifle has been a money pit since I bought it. I'm about $2k in not counting purchase price. Not that I'm complain though. I'm happy with what I have and it's never getting sold if I can help it.

Check out this thread. In particular post 14.

As to cost, In another thread where a rifle was re-bored to .358 Win, the cost was $480 including $100 in shipping.

Maybe should you wait a bit as I heard through the grapevines that TEC will get a shipment of m98 short chambered barrels in 9.3x62.....
