On a recent Polar Bear hunt somewhere in between Clyde River and Pond Inlet, NU, I was fortunate enough to harvest this nice male using my old Husqvarna M46 Mauser in 9.3x57, with 250gr accubonds, open sights. I am often asked what velocities are you getting out of your 9.3's? My answer is "an accurate velocity" as I firmly believe that shot placement is much more important than speed.

Nice...........not the first polar bear to fall to that round. As well the 6.5x55 with 156gr bullets in Norway.....there was a pic of a Nazi u-boat with one on the deck...Harold

Very well done with the M/46 and I too, don't believe in the need of making "poor man's magnum"....

I carry a 93x57 loaded with 285 gr. Hand loads when I go moose hunting, mainly because where moose live,so do Grizzlies.. Seeing that polar gives me some confidence that a big chunk of lead moving along about 2000 fps has some serious 'smack down'
