Savage 10TR le/military

So for those people with the barrel issues, did they ever fix them?
Mine is one of the affected rifles.
I do not wish to say anything at the moment but I believe that the end is near.
As soon as this is finalized I will be posting a detailed account of my story.

So for those people with the barrel issues, did they ever fix them?
I got mine replaced after a year of waiting for grechoutdoors to try and replace the barrel and hounding Savage Canada they did replace the rifle! I seems basically those who bought from SFRC, got theirs replaced by the dealer ( that is the way it should be) . Others like myself ( mine was from Frontier) were told we would have to contact the repair station and they gave me the phone #! Guess who I won't buy my next rifle from! Other people may have different outcomes, however that was my experience, this is why I now ask the dealer if the take the rifle back when there is obvious manufacturers defect or do I have to deal with it myself! Marstar has that ironclad guarantee SFRC did good by their customers, as does Corwin Arms,as far as I know Canam does too. Cabela's sends you a return postage with you rifle, you just call them and let them know it's on the way and why! When we order on line instead of go to the LGS, this should be the norm, we are trusting our dealers.

Would you say that changing the original stock by a good aftermarket one could improve the accuracy? I assume that because they are already aluminium bedded It will not change so much... AM I wrong?

After waiting what seemed like forever to receive my replacement rifle, and get a membership at a local range, I finally got to put some rounds down range. The first couple of rounds were a complete failure. So after bore sighting again, it still failed to hit paper.......hmmmm seen this problem before. After some head scratching, my buddy took a look at the muzzle brake that I had put on. It showed obvious signs of the round making slight contact as it left the muzzle. So we spun that sucker off, and wouldn't you know it, the round hits POA. Obviously contacted the retailer where I bought the brake, a replacement will be here soon. Huge relief, after the last year of dealing with Savage it was nice to actually have a rifle that functions. Now to start doing up some test loads to find the sweet spot.

Without going through the 90+ pages.... what were the barrel issues? Mine has been sitting waiting to be shot. Wondering if it is something I can check for prior to shooting.

Bent barrels basically, mine shot 3 feet to the right, had to go to 25 yards and shoot the left side of the target to get the corner of the right side, most bad ones were about the same , one guy had it 3 right and a foot high! I think if you bore sight it, you would tell. I held a straight edge along the pic rail on both sides and you could see the difference in clearance from one side to the other! There were not that many bad ones, but more than there should have been.

I want to know if some of you guys measured the chambers / starting of the lands on their 10TR?
I've tried to measure it this weekend and it looked like my bullets is touching lands at 2.790"? I found this to be very close, I think i've did something wrong in my measuring procedure...
Anyone measured it?

I found that the TRs tend to have real tight chambers. On my rifle I've had a bullet get stuck in the chamber while cycling out one of my reloads. Same thing happened to a buddy's rifle with a factory SMK.
So now I just load my rounds 10 thou off the lands for a small cartridge length. Another friend who just started reloading for his TR found the same thing.

Can you share what the COAL is for your load/cartridge?

I've taken another measurment, and I ended to 2.660". So my cartridge at 2.793 is pushed into lands... Hopefully I neved got an bullet stuck in the barred while de-chambering a round.

I think that 10TR have very small chambers!!! (it's my first .308win so I can't compare...)

Using a Hornady bullet comparator with my digital calipers my max COAL is 2.238" for my TR. Noticeably tighter than the max COAL of 2.266" for my 10 FCP-SR. Keep in mind these numbers may not mean anything to you if you're not measuring with a bullet comparator. Different bullets will have different profiles thus affecting the overall length if you're only measuring from base to bullet tip.
The only downside I foresee with the tighter chamber is it ultimately limits your case capacity when you load 175/178 grain bullets. Fortunately for me my rifle preferred the lower node recipe for 178gr Amax. If I had to favor the higher node at around 45ish grains the load becomes compressed.

Is there a problem chambering cartridge having a longer COAL than the chamber that I have? I load now 2.793", and I measured my chamber with the cleaning rod method with the same bullet and it gaved me 2.660"...

In effect you're compressing your load everytime you chamber a round.....and in your case by a LOT! Maybe guys with more reloading experience can chime in but I imaging you would a) jam the bullet far enough into the lands that you'll rip the bullet out if you tried cycling out that round, and b) possibly risk getting excessive pressure if your load recipe is close to max case capacity.
How did you come up with your initial COAL anyways? Have you checked the load for pressure signs?
