Not to beat a dead horse but.... I see marstar is selling the bx25x2 10/22 magazines but they are pinned to 10 rounds each side. I see a lot of posts about people saying that BX 25 are prohibited but these bx25x2 are good to go. It seems that is not the case

65 $ for 10 rd big mags, really stupid, and they don't work very well, buy 10 rd Ruger standard mags instead, sure they work and not big and heavy for nothing like bx25

Unpinned BX25 = PROHIBITED
Pinned to 10 rounds to comply with pistol regulations = LEGAL but kind of pointless when you can get Butler Creek 25 round mags, or short BC 10 round mags, or flush Ruger OEM mags.

I have seen many posts about the bx25 X2 being legal Because of the way they are advertised. And same with the BX-25 being prohibited but since the x2's that marstar has are pinned it they must have cracked down on the x2 being sold with full capacity

Why are these prohibited if they're rimfire and the same as 25 round Butler Creeks? Is this just an internet rumour?

It's a letter of the law thing. Ruger BX25 is advertised on package to be used with the Ruger Charger (amongst other 10/22 variants), which is a 10/22 action pistol. This makes it a pistol magazine that has a legal limit of 10 rounds. Butler Creek does not specifically advertise itself as a Charger magazine. Just advertises on package as usable with 10/22, 77/22 and AMT Lightning, which makes it a rifle magazine. Rimfire rifle magazines have no mag limit (usually).

FWIW, nowhere on the BX-25 mags that Bass Pro was selling did it mention the BX-25 can be used with the Charger:

Not that I could ever own one but yes, they are really good, very reliable 25 round mags and worked flawlessly in all 3 of my 10/22's. It's too bad I had to pin it to 10 rounds:)

Looked at one on Tuesday and saw no evidence of a pin.
The source said the BX25 was pinned as it could be used in the handgun.
The BX25X2 is not handgun compatible.

X2

Also, if the bx is prohibited, one would assume the bx2 would be, but if its not handgun compatible, does that mean they arent prohibited??

yeah, if its not marketed for the charger, which is the only reason the BX25 is prohib and the BC25 is not, then the BX25x2 should be fine.

i believe when the bx25x2 came to canada the argument was they where the same bx25 just put together, hence prohibited.

to simplify;
owning a blue snail is illegal, but i hot glued 2 blue snails together so im sure thats fine now, ill just call them blue snails x2, problem solved!

so it dosnt really matter what the printing on the bx25x2 says as the they are composed of 2 prohibited items to make a new item.

at least that is how the legal people are looking at it.
