I've been very busy so I haven't had time to reload. Given that I thought what the hell, might as well get some factory ammo to enjoy the rifle I spent so much time and money building over the past few years. I googled factory 223 match ammo in Canada, found that Hornady makes a 75 gr load, and picked up 200 rounds locally.

Here's my rifle. It's a savage 223, Shilen 20" barrel with 1 in 8" twist, bedded in a choate stock, ATRS base and rings, and bushnell XRS.

The range.

After I got settled in, I saved all the results I had at 200 and 300 yds. The 200 yd groups are 4 shot, the 300 yd groups are 5 shot.

I'm super happy with these results, both with the ammo and as a validation that the rifle is working well. Also I feel that a lot of the fliers were due to my novice shooting ability, so I'm hoping I can improve.

I've still got 160 rounds of this good stuff, but the question is, do I drop another $327 on another 200 rounds?! At least I know the brass is good, so worth saving, and it's fireformed to boot. :d

That is excellent results! Congrats on the great shooting and very nice rifle set up you have there! I have had similar results with that ammo in the 556 format out of a Daniel Defense Mk 12 AR15. That rifle was holding 0.7 MOA out to 400 yards with that ammo, and I have a Tikka Tactical in 308 that especially likes the Hornady Palma Match 155 Amax ammo, producing some groups sub 0.5 MOA.

great shooting ! and probably it will be better with reloads, save the brass the only thing with hornady you have to remove primer crimp for the first time.
That's a nice range too were do we have near Toronto?

I have some Hornady 308 Match, and the primer crimp is brutal. Way tougher than IVI or Federal.

The range isn't particularly close to Toronto! It's the Twin City Rifle Club.

At some point I'll have to pick up one of those swager kits from RCBS (the one you use with your press). But I can still start by depriming with my lee universal depriming die, correct?

yes you can deprime ,but it is faster to deprime and resize at the same time.
the best in my opinion is Hornady Primer Pocket Reamer, it is chip and fast ,after all you have to do it only once.
