So I have decided to go with 165 grain 308 ammo...

But there is a plethora of reviews and it makes my head spin.

So ill ask here... in hopes of a simplified answer...
I shop at crappy tire for ammo (mainly cause i get the ammo for free via cdn tire $$).

So what manufacturer makes the best 165gr hunting round? (also if it matter, we save ammo for a buddy who reloads... but he is out of country right now otherwise id be asking him)

Ill edit in a link to cdn tire ammo page. I also plan on trying a few out... but if there is a general consensus on good and bad manufacturers then I can just whittle some out right away.

You haven't specified what you're looking to hunt.
My vote for all round performance, accuracy (in my experience) and versatility goes to the Nosler Custom 165gr Accubond loads.

If you're just looking for an all round deer load. Remington CL or Win PP work just fine.

ill edit in the tikka apparently im mis remembring his rifle...
the t3 lite does not come in 308.... meh i knew i was forgetful. so scrap worryinh about the Tikka lol

^^^ Hornady 165 gr SST.
But basically, any 165 gr will work for minute of deer if you are shooting within 200yds. Buy whatever is cheapest, sight it in and use it. You might want to consider something in the 180gr range for moose. The Ruger is not a sniper rifle but you should realistically be able to get at least 3MOA in the field with most brands for an average shooter.

Yea, fair enough. I just wanted to avoid any known crap products.

Im content to drop a deer out to 300 yards :) but better... is better.

I've found Remington 308 PSP in 150 gr and 180 gr but no 165gr. It does seem like 165 gr is a bit harder to find on shelves.

With today's bullets, you cannot go wrong with just about any .308 165 grain slug. My favorites would have to be the Hornady Interbond and the Nosler Accubond. There is nothing out there that is worth shooting with a .308 that those bullets cannot handle. Good accuracy and aerodynamics and tough construction. Price won't typically break the bank, but they aren't getting any cheaper either.

My sons tikka compact thrives on 165 trophy bonded tip he has taken a bull elk and whitetail with it beautifull performance I'm sure the accubond would be equally great if accuracy is there
Cheers Tony

The Ruger Scout is far better than a 3 MOA rifle.

I punched out two 3 round mags at the end of a range session the other day, just to verify zero. Nosler 165gr Accubonds, granted it digests most 308 ammo very well.

Good to hear. I just picked up some of those. How do they hold together? Also what's your load? I have two m70's in 30-06 to try them out

The load is 50.0 gr IMR 4064. Produced quarter-sized 3 shot groups at 100 yd out of my Sako 75. Can't really tell you how they have held together, as my shots have been pass-throughs in the ribs (and most recently a head shot), but follow-ups have not been required, and the Hot Cor is a generally well regarded bullet.
