Brands to avoid?

I've been browsing and seeking advice on everyone's favorite AR15 but something that I'm more interested in is which brands did people have the most negative experience with? Which brands should someone definitely avoid buying and why?

Your question is kind of like asking "who has the worst truck on the market" everyone will have a story or bias but not likely a bad experience they have had themselves. Take it with a grain of salt unless someone actually owned the rifle. Perhaps you can give us some direction on what you are looking for? This will allow the thread to take a specific direction that may benefit you, otherwise this will be a general bashing thread instead of narrowing your choices down.

Your overwheming answer will be North Eastern Arms or NEA.
They have a great warranty and you will most likely use it.
They had great issues with exploding bolts in the Gen 1 and 2 guns. Their current offering is suppose to be much improved but I have no experience with them nor do I want to.
Buy once, cry once.

Some will say Norinco. Quality control is hit or miss and there have been issues with swapping parts with other brands. Overall, still very functional rifles.
And mikethebike will have you swear off Christensen Arms. And these are very high end guns!

Someone is going to say NEA however they do kinda stand behind there product and that was first gen stuff that failed. Things like broken or sheared off bolts. Avoid norincos that are priced too high because it will be hard to sell. Norinco is suppose to make a decent functioning ar for not a lot of money just don't put a lot of money into it. People will say there junk but others swear by them. I think there alright just not as nice of a finish. Someone had a windham I do believe was the make that couldn't shoot on paper past 50 m it's for sale with full disclosure on here right now. Rainer is overpriced in my opinion. Everyone is going to say you can't go wrong with a Daniel defence. Really depends how much your willing to spend. Some of the lower end units probably have like 95 percent satisfaction but you might get a bad one.

I've been out of the game for a few years and the number of brands that have popped up seem a bit overwhelming. I mainly shoot service conditions and I'm looking to get into 3 gun.

I would stay clear of anything branded or made by Vulcan Armament. Not very common up here but they've made quite a name for themselves in the States.

I have had Colts, Olympic Arms and a number of Norc M4geries. They were all very accurate and only had jams with th Oly. The Norcs embarrassingly kept up with my Colts in everything I put them through. Take that for what it is worth.

I went through the same thing as you and decided I was going to buy a DD. Funny enough I ended up getting a used LMT (didn't even know who they were). Same price as new NEA's and supposedly much better quality.

Some good deals on the EE, but also some $1400 norcs to sift through. That said I like norc, had no problem with mine, but figured I'd go high quality this time around.

Tactical Teacher will back this up he has seen a ton norcs spank brand name ARs in CQB competition

Not always the rifle, but the person using it...built several from US ,Norc, and one NEA reciever...they all worked just fine...I would avoid anything early from NEA as there have been isues with them...and yeah...Colt USA and Canada...Daniel Defense. ..Armalite, Stag,.are all good quality from what I have seen and used..Others can chime in as there are several more that are pretty damn good ..

That's the first time I've ever heard a bad thing about Windham. They have a lifetime warranty, and mine has never let me down.

NEA has a bad reputation
Keltec has a bad reputation
Some Chinese stuff has a bad reputation
Some Turkish stuff has a bad reputation
Christensen Arms! Fack avoid them like the plague! Run away, run far away!

That was an Eagle Arms someone was selling, it's still in the EE (LINK HERE, remove if I'm not allowed to post links to EE) but apparently it's sold now. Probably would have been good if nick237 would have checked that before making a statement about Windham that's incorrect. ;)

I am by no means an expert
My first and only ar is a dpms oracle a3. I wasn't looking to build it into anything special. I just wanted to experience the platform at a reasonable price and do some plinking. It has yet to let me down after a little over a year and a half and about 1000 rounds through it.
