ok, so latest rifle is a kimber oregon 300 winmag, with a twist rate of 9.5... have all the components to reload but bullets, , looking at 180 gr, as i have a bunch of friends that shoot all types of 300 winmags and they all shoot 180`s, , but curious to what the masses here suggest for bullets..(my buddies are all barnes fanatics.lol),

up to 500 yard shots(very high end of range for me), hunting only, so not interest in match or target rounds, bergers ive heard are better for longer range shots only?, barnes are expensive as all hell and very sporatic in being shipped to local stores, hornday, well, ive never had much luck with reloading rifle rounds with them, but am open to try again,
had great luck with sierra game kings in my 308, sadly they are to light for my 300 or id rob them from my 308 box.lol, any others i`ve missed?,

please keep it to 180`s, possibly 185`s and 300 winmag, well .308 diameter at least, lol,

thanks in advance :)

I don't shoot the 300 Win Mag (I shoot a 300 WSM) and there is a great selection of 180gr projectile's out there. I'd load several up and see what combo your gun likes the best and go from there. The 300 Win Mag is capable of harvesting any North American big game animal.

There's lots of ways to go about it. For instance, if a 300 won't shoot 180 ballistic tips it probably won't shoot anything. If it shoots ballistic tips, you can almost certainly swap the Accubond for the odd larger animal.

It sounds like 500 isn't that likely to happen, and it's more likely to be much less? That's got hornady Interlock written all over it. More often than not the Partition will shoot with it. The Woodleigh is a solid performer too.

the local shop i went to today didnt have much good to say about the new partitions, , barnes sadly had next to no stock , lots of hornady, on his advice i grabbed a 50 pack of 165 gr gmx to try, gives me something to shoot at any rate, i wanted 180 and he was out but has 3 coming he just isnt sure when, , ive loaded up lots for my 338 winmag, and my 308, the 308 nearly bankrupt me trying to find powder and bullets, i finally got a load for it , then traded it for a 45/70.lol, was just wanting to see what you guys and gals are having luck with, and maybe a site sponsor that has anything in stock?

and yes, my average shooting distance would be about 250yards at the higher end for now,

At 180g. I'm thinking of Hornady Interbond. My reasoning is the bc is the same as the Hornady SST 180g. That way I can punch paper with the SST and refine the powder weight, distance from the land and so forth. When I've found the right recipe its easy to apply it to the Interbond. I've done that with the SST and GMX at 165g.
Depending on what you're going for, the 165g. GMX has 2000+ psig energy at 300 yards which is plenty for moose. I don't hunt in BC so this is more from an Ontario perspective. Cousins of mine in BC use 180g. Nosler Partitions and are experimenting with E-Tips. They swear by Nosler.

190 Hornady BTSP's

X2

The comments about the 190 Sierra MK are valid when searching for a load.
The accuracy load is 70.4 grains of Re22.
That load is extended and the charge is 72.7. While I went a little higher, 3" groups at 300 yards showed this to be a good starting point.

From the Sierra Suite 6 the following was for 180 grain bullets:

Accuracy Load: IMR-4831/ 71.6grs. 3000fps/ 3598ft. lbs.
Hunting Load: IMR-7828/ 76.8grs. 3100fps/ 3841ft. lbs.

Go with the Swift Scirocco II and be done with it. They are a phenomenal hunting bullet and fly great. They are a little on the expensive side but worth every penny in a hunting situation. I've used them in a 300 Win Mag at distances from 50m to 600m and they drop deer and moose like they were hit by lightening. They were as accurate as any of the match bullets I tried as well.

If you just want a range bullet go with the 190 gr SMK.

I don't hunt with these (or hunt period), but was trying to suggest looking to a 190gr projectile. Several .300 WM owners I know have all commented on how the .300 really shines when you go to the heavier projectiles - some even use the big 208gr as well.

I have one that does like 200 gr better than 180 s and another that shoots anything but that a bar with boss so it's set for 180 s

this rifle is strictly a hunting rifle, i only shoot ranges when i`m sighting in a rifle or building up a load, or just making sure the scope is still on, i`m willing to look at anything, and try just about anything, i`m not brand specific, :)

Then the Scirocco is a perfect bullet for you. I found them more accurate than Accubonds or Partitions. I haven't tried TSXs or GMXs but they may be a good choice as well.
