Plainfield m1 carbine value

Many of the plainfield m1 are restricted. Years ago a tube was welded on the end of the barrel to defeat the barrel length restrictions------Lookk at the end of the barrel to see if the last 2 inches have rifeling if it does good to go if not then oh well. JMHO
That really amazes me, I was about to buy it cause I couldn't understand. Plainfield, although a commercial copy, are excellent rifles.
I'm guessing the restricted classification really dragged the price down. Non-res, I'd wouldn't sell mine for less than $600
Hell, I'd take a plainfield over a new auto ordnance any day.
Restricted and not a common caliber kill it, especially without the history. Would be awesome with a new criterion non restricted barrel.

That was my plainfield I sold it $375 shipped with a case. after having it listed for about 3.5 months
it was a great shooter in good shape, but I just never get out to "real" ranges much anymore.
I listed for:
$550 no offers
$500 no offers
$450 2 people casually interested, that asked a few questions said it looks good and then never messaged again. Then I got one police baiting from usedfirearms.ca ( "come meet me at ### timhortons parking lot at 7pm i'll bring cash" "oh you mean the one right across the street from the cop shop?")
$425 2 "I'll take it" that never sent another word after the original message, one low ball and another sketchy offer from usedfirearms.ca
$375 it sat for a week, before 2 people mesaged me.... one ended up taking it, the other disappeared
unless it is a WW2/korea M1 from a military manufacture its nearly worthless if it's a restricted rifle.
They have no collector value and Nobody wants to pay $500 to rebarrel it to a non restricted when you can buy a brand new AO NR for the same price
As an owner of a AO... its quality is amazing, its far better built. Mine is by far my most used rifle in my collection these days.
The only issue I have had has been with corwin arms mags, in which the the cut out hole for the mag retainer was in the wrong spot and the mags sat to low to feed properly. I switched to KCI mags and no feed issues at all anymore.
PS: I can tell you this is the first and last time I ever use usedfirearms.ca .... nothing but scammers, gang bangers and police baiters.

plainfield isn't USGI either, unless you have a realy early one, even then it only had a smattering of USGI parts. they manufactured their own stuff after the parts dried up. The one I sold was a complete civilian manufacture.
The only saving grace of plainfield... is that unlike "universal" that PM's parts got better over time.
if I was going to shell out the money on a new barrel, I would get the centurion canadian barrel... and i can send the gun in to one of the CGN sponsors, pay $500 and it comes back done.

Same here, I listed a few small items and did eventually sell them, but tons of scammers and lowlifes.
I wasn't calling it a usgi rifle, just that it'll readily take usgi parts. Not so much the barrel it seems :\
Mine is mostly gi from the looks of her, except for a shrunken handguard(ditched it and got a ultimak rail), never had a problem with it aside from finding ammo.
Manteo97 is rebarreling them for $145 using your own barrel according to his ee ad. $350 using his own barrels.

the earlier ones would have taken USGI parts no issue... much like universal...as they were built with them. the latter ones some of the parts were not... there is triger group issues, and the barrels.

Tiriaq is correct. Plainfield barrels do not have skirts on them. Plainfield built this little feature into its (cast) receivers, so a USGI or an aftermarket barrel with a skirt will not screw into the receiver completely and clock up properly. The skirt has to be carefully removed.
