Pre 1898 battle rifles considered antique?

Converted percussion revolvers do come up for sale. There are dealers who specialize in antique firearms. Whether an antique is going to be shootable is another question. $2000 is likely just going to be a down payment on one in fine condition. Making .44 Colt ammunition is more complicated than some other elderly cartridges.

Really? How so? Looks like the standard fill and pinch to me.

Does anyone here sell biometric locked safes?

my .44 colt uses a heeled bullet The mold cost a small fortune..Not know how much because I got it as a package deal.

What year?

Weird. Those things are way too overpriced. It should be like $30. It's just a piece of metal. Like a good hammer.

Can any antique pistol realistically handle polar bears and grizzlies and moose?

Polar bears are 1500 lbs right?

Yea, you have to climb on his back and stick the barrel in his ear, then pull the trigger, hang on tight, their fur is white but very greasy!!;) if that's all you have to protect yourself then of course that's what you would use I guess but have your will written and not on your person! Maybe the smoke from the black powder will blind him while you get away! Just kidding, I suppose a well placed shot from anything could kill such huge animals, but why?

Good question! We all want to carry something for this purpose, what might do the job? What is this "Howda" pistol?

I think maybe the real question should be: Can ANY pistol handle grizzlies, polar bears, or moose? I'm not talking about sitting in a stand over a bait with a .454 at 40 yards. In any situation, one of the above animals charging you at short distance (20-30 yards) will more than likely end with you being mauled at the least. They are just too fast in an unexpected encounter.

In an unexpected, surprise encounter where they are attacking, a 12 gauge or even a .416 Rigby probably isn't going to do you any good either. Unless you are ready, and prepared to shoot at every second you are probably a McHappy meal. The minute you sling the rifle or shotgun, reaction time comes into play

If you do have time to prepare, or the attack is not unexpected, then it a whole different story. Will an antique stop them? I don't know. Depends on too many factors that you can't calculate: distance, shot placement, what caliber/bullet. I'm pretty sure that IF you can put a .455 Webley round into their eye or ear at 3 feet that you've got a decent chance of stopping them. You just have to get them to stand still while you're doing it.

Can a revolver rechambered to .44 do it?

Is this gun considered antique?

Old design. Newly "manufactured"?

I think the OP wants the antique designation for bush carry, so we need to keep this thread on track.

Or is it a question about whether to even bother because no antique pistol will be effective?

Lov'in the bear defense thread!;)
