I will be buying this rifle in the next few days. The Savage 10TR 24 inch barrel. My first rifle after much deliberation. My plan is to put on the MDT Tac21 chassis and a nice looking muzzle brake then cerakote the entire thing black or a carbon black type shade. What do you guys think?

No I haven't picked out a scope yet but I have a few in mind.

And I am not shooting to please anyone else lol. I am shooting for myself and would like a muzzle brake :p

I will check out that thread as well. But I think I alreday made up my mind on the gun. I feel like i have been deciding for months and not buying anything lol

Don't worry about the brake. Just about every one I shoot with uses one. No problem.
Get a good scope. Cheap ones aren't worth bothering with.

If your already planning on replacing the chassis and having the firearm cerakoted etc I wonder if you have thought about using a cheaper savage as a base for your build. You could get hold of one of the cheaper Savage models with a model 10 short action.

You may need to add an after market trigger such as Timney, if you choose a model without the accu trigger. You could then budget for a prefit after market barrel with the specs you want. Pre fits are easy to install and have a high degree of probability that they will shoot.

The reason I am mentioning this is because although I seem to like Savages, I have owned 3 short and 2 long action based models, at the end of the day they are a factory barrel. Some will shoot to your requirements and some will not.

You could possibly put together something a similar, with an after market barrel for not too many more dollars and a little more work. Having said that I think you already got a good project going and it may take time to source a prefit. I am sure you will have fun whatever.

After checking prices I changed my mind. LOL.

The cheapest I can find a Savage basic model is $499. The model 10TR is only $699 at SFRC. That comes with accu trigger, a nice bolt handle and scope rail. Buy the 10TR and see how it shoots.

OP. There is a thread for the 10TR just below this one. It contains answers to many questions which you are going to be having over the next few days - rings and height, magazines and stocks, ammo and reloading options. And a whole lot of ###y looking rifles and shooting.
It's a bit of a long read, but worth it.

On my LSS XL there is a slot that you place a small tool into (screwdriver, Allen key or the like) to push back the bottom bolt release. Works good.

Got a pic of this slot? Is it the same for all MDT chassis systems?

XLR installed a slide button on the side of the chassis to resolve the bottom bolt release, no tools required:

Yes I am thinking about the Leupold Vx-3 6.5-20x40mm. I am not sure if the Vx-3 6.5-20x50mm is worth an extra $220. I am just hoping that it lets me see clearly the bullet holes at 200 yards.

Yea i have been looking for cheaper savage models and remington 700 models but only this Savage 10tr is exactly what i am looking for. I want a 22-24 inch HEAVY barrel in .223 or 308. I just think the regular barrels look to skinny for this chassis. This is the right buy for me I believe and yes its only 699 with free shipping from SFRC. Almost cant go wrong. The chassis i can bring with me if I want another gun later.
