After reading a lot of horror stories about the terrible build quality of post-JM Marlins, and seeing a couple of examples first-hand, I'm wondering what the most recent purchasers have to say about their guns. I've had plenty of JM's, including a pet SBL which would be among the last guns I would ever sell. A few comments have surfaced claiming that Remington/Marlin has gotten their act together and are finally producing quality rifles once again.

How about it? Who has a REM-marked Marlin that they have purchased new within the last year or so? What do you think if it?

LOVE mine. Got it 3 months ago. I, also, had read all the horror stories, so when I ordered my SBL from Wanstalls, I asked that they have one of their "experts" look over the items that I was concerned about. At the end, I asked that he/she provide me with a gun that they, themselves would be proud to own.
When the gun was delivered, in the box, I found a hand written note stating all the points I wanted checked, and he also said that of the FOUR guns that they had in stock (and he looked at all 4), this would have been his choice for himself.

I couldn't be happier with my gun or the service received from Wanstalls. Will DEFINITELY deal with them again.

Thanks for the responses...quite the split so far. Keep'em coming. When you guys mention off-center sights, are you referring to a blade simply drifted too far over to the side in order to achieve a zero, or is it actually mounted tilted off to the side?

I was kinda sorta maybe considering the possibility of potentially purchasing a new 1895. My level of commitment to the idea is still unchanged. :)

Bought an SBL 1895 45-70 6 months ago. It is my prized rifle and I use it a lot. Bush carry, hunting and punching holes in rail road ties. Zero issues! Barrel is awesome, fit and finish are great.

My only complaint is the trigger is really sloppy (not at huge issue for a 10-100yard gun) and can be fixed with ordering an aftermarket one.

Accurate, never had a feed issues (remmington, Hornady, HSM, Buffalo Bore), always ejects clean and always goes bang.

Happy hunting!

My new in box Marlington had a canted barrel and crooked sights. Rather than the hassle of shipping back or to a warranty center, paid a gunsmith to correct the issues. Works fine now but should never have passed QC. Have since struck Remington and other Freedom Group products off my list.

Bought a 338bl, a 308mx, and the 795 since the acquisition. No performance issues - the only 'problem' is a slightly larger than ideal gap on the buttstock on the 336 which was made in 2012.

I am more than satisfied with the lot.

Enjoy!

I also have an SBL manufactured this year. It had a loose front sight but otherwise is solid and definitely a keeper. I convinced a couple others on here to buy one as well

I collect other Marlin's too and this is my first Remlin.

Echoing what others have said, the Marlin 1895 line-up has definitely improved from ~2015 and beyond. If possible handle it before buying.

How much for this job?

I bought a GBL a year-and-a-half ago the only issue that I had was the Press checkering on the butt stock wasn't that great but was perfect on the forearm the front sight was perfect I checked it with my level and I replaced it with an XS ghost ring sights. As for the smoothness before I even fired it I sent it to my guns and then had the upgrades put in. Stainless steel magazine follower Wild West bear-proof ejector and the wild west happy trigger kit I had the whole action polished and the big Loop
champfered on the inside
