So I wondered what all Cz/Vz owners thought about the arrival of the Type 81. I was pondering with a few of my shooting buddy's about the introduction of the type 81, and we all agreed that soon no one in their right mind will pay over or around 800$ for a cz/vz when for a a bit more you can have a superior rifle. Once the Type81's are out for a bit and selling used it will drive the cz/vz prices even lower as again if you can get a used type81 for around 9-950$ who in their right mind would even pay 750$ for a cz/vz. Now I see why so many people are trying to sell there cz/vz's as soon they won't be worth nearly what they are now..

You are assuming that the Type 81 will be any good... and that would be jumping to conclusions on a Chinese firearm.

The people who bought the last group of 858's from Wolverine didn't seem to move their 858's at a markup on the EE. Don't think the market is there anymore. New VZ's are overpriced for what they are.

If the Type 81 is the bomb, they'll sell very well and take a huge bite out of the VZ/CZ market, but that's yet to be seen. One thing I won't do is pay in full on a pre-order, which is what Tactical Imports is doing.

Doubt it will change much. By the time they are largely avail to the public things will have appriciated in value /inflation/ Clinton etc... both rifles will never depriciate from the price they are at now.

Just not sure what you mean, or what your criteria are, for a "superior" rifle. I'm an old guy, so I remember the days when you could walk into a store and buy an FN-FAL, an HK-91, or even an AKM. I understand that the fact that we can't just buy these anymore has created kind of a cult following, and a mystical aura around these guns, but they all have their downsides, and shortcomings.

Having owned and shot an AKM back in the eighties I can tell you that my 858 is a much better, higher quality gun. I haven't looked into the Type 81 in depth, but on the surface it looks like a souped-up SKS that looks a lot like an AK

I have an 858 which I have no intention of selling and I have a Type 81 on order. I think the 858 is most likely going to be the superior firearm but I simply wanted a Type 81 as well.

If this is red rifle mods will move it. The Type 81 will be superior, it better be as it was designed 2 decades after the cz and was designed as a upgrade/replacement for the Ak, which is also a more reliable rifle then the cz/vz. The gas system on the cz is nice but not much shares reliability with a ak and if the t81 is anywhere close to a ak the cz's will have to suffer as I know no one who will buy one.

Well... Type81 hasnt proved its superiority to the Canadian market yet. Then there is the aftermarket support spare parts as well as tacticool parts availability. I'm not knocking on the Type81, I wish I could afford ordering one but not possible at the moment, but claiming it a "superior" rifle might be too soon. Then we have to establish criterias.

I say it wont affect the VZ/CZ prices as much as you may think.

I cannot wait for those rifle to hit Canadian ground and be reviewed by Canadian Gun Nutz, alone and side by side with CZ. Hopefully they do not disapoint their owner on reception, I remember 2 M305 that required serious gunsmitthing in order to empty an entire mag somewhat accuratly...

You sir, are drunk! lol

The AK is not that good really. It's stamped steel and the barrel is light and overheat quick. The CZ is definetly superior in build quality, the receiver is milled but the rifle is still a full pound lighter than the AK, it has bolt hold open and has better ergonomic.

I've never seen a Type81 but just looking at it and I can tell it's bulkier. Some pictures also shows some poor QC like springs not straight or seated properly. I doubt it's going to be ''better''.

Given my experiences with the quality of all my czech built guns vs the fit, finish and function of any norinco I've ever owned im going to put my money on the 858 still being the better built gun.
There is a reason czech firearms have such a good reputation and norinco not so much.
I think ill buy one still to try it out

I wonder if it'll have the barrel gouge like the T97's

"Look's like an AK with T97 quality"??? It remains to be seen. I wanted a T97 until I read some of the bad reviews and actually held one in a LGS, the poor ergonomics made me ask, 'what were they thinking'...

I'll let the other guys be the guinea pigs, if they are great rifles, I'll buy one when the next batch comes in. No big deal.
