Well Canada Post made a worthwhile delivery this morning. My 2016 Individual Bull tag for Gun Season arrived. Outstanding. The upcoming long weekend just got even better.

October can't come fast enough. Good luck to everyone who applied.

For your viewing pleasure.

Congrats. Have you hunted in that WMU before or do you gotta start to plan everything now that you got the seal?

Congratulations !! I had two tags waiting in my mailbox today. Both for calves. No moose hunt for me this year. I'm really disappointed . I was really looking forward to taking my son for an adventure for his first moose hunt. Perhaps it will be an archery deer hunt instead.

Congratulations on your success. Enjoy your hunt and good luck.

Have hunted the same WMU for the last 16 years. Still some planning to do but an enjoyable part of the hunt.

Ok thanks for the response. Just was wondering if you randomly picked an WMU or you actually hunt that far north. Do you stay at a hunt camp or do you rough it? Best of luck for this falls hunt!!

Nice! I missed the deadline, so I'm out of the running for WMU 13 for the next two years as I climb back to Pool 1.

how long is the gun season for the moose there?

The tag for OP says WMU 1C, so Sept 17th-Dec 15th for adult moose. Oct 22nd -Nov 4th for calf.

I'm in WMU 13 - October 15th-Dec 15th. Calf season is the same.

I just got my "individual" bull as well for WMU 25.

I believe the season in 1 is the same as 25 - third Saturday in September until it's way too cold to be up that far :)

I have been hunting in 25 for over 40 years now (off and on - only WMU I hunt moose).

We take the train into the area (almost no road access) - just head to Cochrane ON then 150 miles north on the train :)

Depends on your definition of roughing it. It is fly-in access only so we set up a frame, wall tent and cooking shelter on the side of a lake. A couple of canoes get us around to where we hunt which is about 9 km's away. I find it kind of deluxe as far as hunt camp sets go. Sure beats a sleeping bag under a tarp on a bunch of pine boughs. A little wood stove cuts the damp in the wall tent.

Here is the camp set.

The train is a great way to go. We used to take the train to Red lake and then fly out of there, 250 miles due North. The train still has a "carcass rate" of $75 so if you are successful you just load your quarters and the rest into the baggage car, hop on and relax.

Good luck in your WMU25 hunt

Thanks for the luck - I will take it :)

On the Polar Bear Express, at least as of last year, there was no additional charge for bringing out a Moose or Bear (as the guy at the ticket counter said - "not yet").

The train itself is about 100 bucks round trip with baggage charges for anything over 40 or 50 pounds - so usually costs a pair of us another 50'ish bucks for the gear "over allowance" and they have no heartburn with multiple gun cases - they have a locker in the baggage car right next to the kennels for dogs - love that train....

Life got in the way to do a trip like yours for this year but next year i'll meet you at the Timmies in Cochrane for a coffee before we jump on the train.

I've been calved. :(

That must be so slimy. cp:

I drew a cow moose tag. Still waiting to hear how the others in our group made out. We are hopeful there will also be a bull tag. No calf hunting until long after our trip is over. The lack of calf tags is not disappointing since we have only taken 2 in the last 20 years or so.

Yeah I hear that! Calves seem few and far between, I'm curious if the new calf season thing they tried out last year had any positive effect? In my neck of the woods it doesn't seem like many folks were getting much, but the same can't be said for the groups of people with cards bringing home 4 moose before October.

congrats man! mine came yesterday. this is the first moose tag ive won, just one difference. mine doesn't specify which wmu or if its bull or cow like yours. can anyone shed some light on this for me?

...Been a couple of years since I bought a moose license but I'm pretty sure that's a regular old, default, calf tag...You automatically get one of those when you buy a moose license and you enter into a draw for adult tags. It seems as though you were unsuccessful in the draw. Tough luck man. Maybe next year.:yingyang:
