Still dont know what scope to get :(

iv figured the highest i could go is $400 but would rather stick around $300. Im looking for the best value of glass. But i also believe in miracles and wish to find something that could also serve decently enough to plink out to 600, 800, maybe even 1000 yards.

Whats the best bang for your buck guys?

thanks

I would look into a Leupold Rifleman or VX-1 if you can find one. Those are scopes I have experience with. Probably can find a better used scope on the EE but it's hit or miss there sometimes.

I'd look at Nikon's Prostaff5 lineup. A 2.5-10x40 fits your budget, but if you're wanting to shoot out to 1000y the 3.5-14x40 might serve you better, and can be had for under $400 when sales pop up.

Edit: Everyone's eyes are different, and what scope suits my eyes might not be for you. Best thing to do is go to a big box store, or a LGS that has a nice selection of different scopes, and look through them, lots of them. You'll quickly narrow it down to a few that work for you, then go from there. I still say in the lower midrange scopes Nikon has the market cornered with regards to quality of glass for dollars spent.

Well - Sounds like you might need an adjustable objective for the distances you've stated - that certainly limits the selection.
I hope you realize the complexities involved in shooting recreationally out past a couple of hundred yards...

X2. I have a Nikon ProStaff BDC 3-9X40 on a Ruger M77 .270Win. that works really,really well. Find them at www.cabelas.ca for under $300.

I am very happy with my fairly new 3-9x40 VX1 from Prophet river which has no problem with my 300winmag. Perhaps not a 1000 yard scope but excellent value.

Be patient and save your money till you can afford a decent scope, like a vortex viper HS 2.5- 10x44. Very nice glass. Three very experienced hunting buddies of mine tossed there bushnells and mounted these on their rifles after I bought mine. I paid 350 for mine at the hunting show, now I think there 700 +but still well worth it, IMO.
