GP11 stopped being produced around 1995 (until this 2016 run)
I think in the early 90's the Swiss went to SG550 in 5.56

Who hoo! I just bought 4 cases to go with the one I already had though. I wonder if the new production will cost the same.

Don't expect to see the new production Gp11 until it has a couple of decades in army inventory. Even the Swiss rifle clubs get ammo near or past the end of it's service life. That means a shelf life past what the military think is adequate.
When I first joined a Swiss club in back in 1991, we had 1978 ammo. Most recent we got in was 1989 dated.
Most on the 1978 GP11 first showed up as surplus in around 2001 from what I remember.

Just a note on the Swiss military use of GP11, I had read on another forum that the MG51 machine gun chambered in 7.5X55 is still used on some armoured vehicles.
And that the GP11 ammo has a "expiry shelf life" for use by the Swiss Forces, and this was one reason for the new production.

I think these days the Swiss Rifle clubs probably use up more GP11 per year than the Swiss army does.
