I have been eye balling these kinda cool guns. Can any of you give me any feedback on them if you own one? Good, bad and ugly? I have posted a WTB add in the EE but would also like some feedback.

Thanks guys/gals :)

Why do you say the news ones are crap? What is wrong with them? I have looked for reviews on them and found some really good reviews, but very little negative.

I don't own one, but have read terrible reviews. Two gunsmiths I know (who are not elitist) say the new 42 is extremely poorly made and assembled with very sloppy tolerances. They have both done trigger work (hammer doesn't strike hard enough) and sight work (misaligned). I have seen one where the butt stock was full of styrofoam chunks.

I would love a 42 if it was built solid.

I own a 42, and have to agree that ithe is a cheaply made gun. But then again I paid 300 new for it, so what can you expect.
It has some real advantages over the 24 though, especially weight. A 42 weighs nothing, while the old 24s were clunky pigs.
It's my throw in the back seat ditch chicken gun, for what it's worth.

if given the choice I would try to find an older model 24, but if I couldn't get one or wanted something new chiappa makes a decent looking 22/410 in the little double badger. I haven't handled one myself, but they look a little more solid than the 42's.

I had such high hopes for the 42, I was just itching for them to release one in 22/20ga or 22wmr/20ga and for them to be decent quality, but I was sorely let down.

I have used older 24's for years and have a new 42 is 22 Mag/.410.

The thing looks different, but performs GREAT!

The .22 mag (scoped) literally shoots 1" @ 100 meters with CCI Maxi mags, and it is a great, handy combo.

I unreservedly recommend them. Seriously.

The look of the new ones turn me off, no idea how they work. I have a pre 1964 model (that is when they started putting serial #'s) and it has performed flawlessly. Personally I would hold out for an older model. The comment about weight is relevant, they would be heavier than the new model, but not overly so. Never regretted owning that gun.

I owned both a .22lr and WMR 42. Both shot extremely high, I ended up selling the WMR and lost the LR in a housefire. I don't plan on replacing it.

That saddens me. I was hoping to use this as a spur of the moment chicken gun to be placed in my side x side. I like the advantages of the synthetic stock, weight and length over the model 24. For $300 I can deal with the aesthetics of it and even some foam in the stock or whatever,..I just wish some of you had more good to say about it.

boooooo

Hayya Harry, $300 isn't a kings ransom.
Furrgitt whut t'uthers arr posting...............azz Shell Buzzie says, "why duntja gift it a try"?

Then iff'n awll else fails, the price will goezs up and so will yer s'pereeanced gal.

Every day yer awn this planet is one you won't git tuh yewse in the fewture.

I'd rather own one of each, a 22 or a 410 but not in that awful configuration of a gun. They feel like a 3' length of 2x4 in hand. I know guys who think they are a prized possession but personally I wouldn't give you $10 for one. I had a Valmet 412 years ago. I had a set of 12/12 30" barrels and a 30:06/12 set. Now that was a nice O/U rifle/shotgun combo and many more configurations were available.

Looky's drunk! Save your hard earned money. I have tried out a friends 42 and it isn't worth $30 never mind $300! My friend took it back and the dealer refunded her. We couldn't get it to fire 5/10 times at best. She ended up buying a 24 instead and though its not my cup of tea at least its reliable!

Yer an oarrible cuss, yew know that huh Frankie?

I got a chiappa double badger 410/22 in my opinion it looks a lot nicer than the Savage. Ive taken it out hunting its amazing. When the rabbits or squirrels sit I take them with the .22, if there running than .410. very handy gun

I've yet to have mine fail to fire.
In my opinion, it is exactly what you want it to. Strap it to the quad and shoot the odd chicken, just don't try and make it into something it is not. It is not an example of fine American craftsmanship, but it is instead a cheap plastic multi barrel gun that fills a niche in the market.
There is a huge difference between this and a valmet combo gun, a completely different purpose for a completely different buyer.
Guys believe their old 24s are worth 5, 6 700 dollars now, which seems crazy to me.
