AR-15 Blemish?

Looks like is missing finish everywhere to me, look behind the trigger and around near the raised areas, I would be calling for sure. That thing looks like it's been abused for being brand new.
 
I'd contact the retailer. It's one thing for me to beat up my own guns. It's another to pay factory new prices for one (especially at $3k) that is already beat up.

I think a bit of what you are seeing is the areas the ballistol did not touch giving it a lighter look. Though I could be wrong. But that weird smear if my chief complaint and that little bit of what looks like extra material above it.

I called the retailer and they told me to provide a picture so I sent the one I provided here. Hopefully they take care of it, I'm confident they will but I guess we will see. Really bummed out though, not looking forward to the hassle of sending this back.

I get what you mean, but that's the way she goes sometimes.
 
Is it possible you received a demo or display rifle? If so, I'd be looking for a reasonable rebate off my purchase price or replacement, if you can't live with the blemishes. When you drop KAC level coin on a new rifle, it's not unreasonable to expect an undamaged, blemish free end product.
 
I'd be just as OCD as you if I paid that price and received a blem
Would anyone pay for a brand new car with a scratch in it from the factory? Not likely.

At the time I ordered they had three in stock. So they should not have sent a display model or demo.

I received the rifle today so I can not really say on function. I do not plan on firing it of course until I figure out what I want to do with it. (Which I'm leaning towards an exchange) As for fit all seems decent with the exception that the lower and upper receiver wobble a decent amount and the gap seems large. But again this is my first AR so I don't know if the gap and wobble are within normal parameters. One thing I didn't mention that I noticed is it looks like someone marked the front of the rifle with black sharpie. One straight line when the front of the lower receiver holds the upper. Something I found strange but fairly insignificant or at least I assume.

Nothing wrong with wanting a spotless product when spending the kind of money you have on this rifle. As for the fit and finish I'd say it's most likely all good as KAC is known to be a high end AR manufacturer.
The black sharpie mark at the front does seem a little strange (not to mention the white splotch) so I would question the retailer on those subjects (I'd probably just ask for a box or two of match ammo. if it was me and then go and get it roughed up with a little hard use).

But for you though a new rifle may be in order, even if for no other reason then to keep your OCD from getting the best of you.;)

yeah I use my CC in competition and its pretty scuffed up around the FA due to lefty use and thrown into barrels, but I wont throw it to the ground. If I have to get in a position where it gets dusty or dirty whatever, but I won't throw something I spent thousands on down unless absolutely necessary. Why would you purposely abuse the rifle that is going to save your life?
 
This forum gets funnier every year.

If you bought a KAC for a safe queen or to fondle in front of the mirror or to make your range buddies jealous*, I can see how this sort of thing would be an issue. If you bought it to shoot and appreciate for its unquestionable reliability, durability, and pedigree then I don't think it would be a problem.

people cringed at my range when they see me just drop my DD right on to the bench or the gravel floor. I only take care of my gun if i know i will sell it, but if i know its a keeper the paint is coming off and scratches are going in!
 
Yeah I'd definitely exchange it if I dropped KAC money on a gun. Even on a $600 pistol I'd find blemishes unacceptable unless I was made aware of the blemish and got a discount because of it. You wouldn't accept a scratch on a brand new phone or car so why accept it on a firearm, especially one that is confined to a shooting range. If you bought it from who I suspect, I'm sure they'll take care of it ASAP.
 
Most ar's go from the safe to the range and then home. Makes sense you would want it to look good they are not a dime a dozen.
 
After some thought I think I'm probably going to keep the rifle. Having had more time to look it over the small mark is not nery noticeable unless in direct bright light like the flash of my phone. And I just don't think it's worth the hassle of exchanging it. Guess I'll just have to add my own scrapes and dings from using it to even it out. Thanks everyone for the tips and opinions I appreciate the input.
 
It's certainly going to get marks if you run it in Tac Rifle/3 Gun matches. I wouldn't worry about it if that's your intent.

If you're a poodle shooter: a KAC is pretty big money, and I would expect a perfect product to begin with. Pretty sure OST would look after you.
