This would be the ultimate upgrade for shedding weight. If I do go with a lightweight barrel I would upgrade to an non QD trunnion as well to bring the accuracy up :)

would be a really good idea if doable, the carbon fibre will bring the weight down significantly
piston and gas system would still need to be steel though right?

Seriously ? lol.... I never saw it.

Well if you want it as well we could both send our ACR's to ATRS :) make it easier for them to give it a shot if more people are interested...

Yeah a 350US option, Until I hear back from ATRS saying they can give it a shot i'm not dropping that kind of cash on a trunnion...lol...

Still cheaper than a MV :)

Cost isn't an issue since I rather upgrade than buy another gun I just won't use.

I love this platform and hate the extra weight, unless I can find something that cuts weight for cheaper, I have no choice but to drop it like it's hot...lol...

Have not talked to ATRS specifically about this project. I would send my ACR to Ian at Herron Arms before ATRS, ATRS is unfamiliar with the ACR and has their hands full with MH and MV. Not to mention the ACR having a Proof barrel is a very good reason to not get a MV. :p

Yes forgot about herron arms :) will give him a call tomorrow :)

sell ACR 2500$ and Buy MV for 5K

Keep ACR spend 2500$ to upgrade

Either way Im screwed... lol...

The Tavor has really made me hate my ACR

While I'm far from an expert, my understanding at least with ATRS's Modern Hunters is that their basic SS light barrel and the Carbon wrapped barrel were the same weight.

The advantage is that the Carbon barrel shoots similar to the a heavy barrel (more shots before heating up) which of course is heavier then the Carbon barrel.

So there is no weight savings between the Carbon barrel and SS light contoured barrel on the ATRS MH's anyways (what barrel does the ACR comes with?).

Saying that I do like the idea as it would offer the best case scenario of being able to maintain accuracy when longer strings of fire are needed w/o a weight gain as compared to a heavy barrel, not to mention the cool factor...

Aren't the ATRS MV's going to be around $3,500 (w/o any upgrades of course).

Cheers D

This is correct. Light barrel and CFW weigh the same, but CFW has the advantages you mentioned.

Basic MV were $3200+tax when I ordered, now I believe it's $3300 or $3350.

As mentioned by one individual on my thread on the ACR forum, Marvin Pitts of Nefarious Arms (the go to ACR smith in the U.S.) has complete custom gas systems, the one on my Nefarious Arms barrel kit is perfection and beauty. That's the way to go.

So I was talking with rambones today and he asked if I ever thought of fitting a proof research barrel on my ACR ;)

Do you guys think this is doable ? I want to send ATRS an email but wanted to check with the CGN experts first.

Gas ports are different.

It will only bring the weight down a couple ounces. Your money would be better spent on a Nexus hand guard.

Nexus handguard isn't for me. I don't like the way it looks.

And all the weight of the ACR is in the Barrel due to our stupid laws.

For me the weight difference would be quite noticeable due to the fact that my current Herron Conversion is a heavy profile for over half the barrel length.

A proof CFW barrel, Nexus CL-3, and a non-QD trunion on would put some serious pressure on the MV to perform well.

For myself, I will skip the non-QD trunion as the QD barrel system is one of the things that make the ACR so appealing to me.

Manticore arms might develop a lightweight handguard for the ACR and can export them. The nice thing is you can change the rails.
