Hi all. I'm missing a SA revolver in my collection and would like to remedy that. I've decided on 357 and 5.5" barrel length, blued or stainless doesn't matter. My first thought was Uberti. Just thought I'd ask if there was anything else that you'd recommend or just go with the Uberti. I'm not a CAS so it's just for plinking/range toy. Thanks.

I would go for a Ruger personally. Either a Blackhawk or Vaquero depending on what you like the looks of, but the adjustable sights on the Blackhawk make for a more practical range toy.

I have 2 Taylors and company smoke wagons on the way right now, although I'm a traditionalist so it's 45 colt for me

The choice range is huge. Think first exactly what do you need the iron for. Beauty, value, heavy usage etc. I never seen I gun I didn't like to be honest.

I had a Uberti EL Patron 5 1/2 .45LC, it was excellent ,way nicer than my buddies Vaqrero. But I've since sold it and when I do replace it, it's going to be the real deal. One of the site vendors has a Colt .357 for $2000

Yup, a Uberti El Patron would fit the bill perfectly. I used to have a 5.5" Taylor's & Co. Smoke Wagon Deluxe in .357 that was custom tuned by master smith Cody Conagher and it was wonderful, trigger was a lot better than both factory Colt SAA (2nd & 3rd gen) I had at that time. Sure the Colt is prettier, has better case hardening and blueing process but the Smoke Wagon was smoother, faster and more accurate. Decided to sell my SA's in .357 and kept the ones in .45 Colt. I now sling my El Patron in .45 Colt a lot and dueling both my STI Texicans once in a blue moon since they are pretty scarce (67 manuf. total).

I'm pretty happy with my Ruger Blackhawk Convertible .357/9mm stainless 5.5" from Prophet river, pretty fun plinker. .357/.38 and 9mm fun

Had a pietta in 44 mag....loved it...Color case hardened, brass accents etc....traded it on....will have another...I havn't tried others but it sure had heft....shot well too.

If your looking for SAA one of the clones is the way to go, Pietta would be a good choice as it's cheaper and will let you know if SAA is for you.
As I said , I had the Uberti El patron and it was nice.
I just recently made a trade for a Cimmeron Evil Roy :).
It, ll have to do until I get the funds for the real thing.

I am very happy with my El Patron in 357mag. 5.5" barrel is nice though I have to admit I have a preference for the 4 5/8 as they seem to balance better. I would like to get a 5.5" El Patron though in 45 Colt at some point and with that might end my handgun purchases. I did say might didn't I.

Take Care

Bob

All Italian guns are great and they look absolutely beautiful. Out of the box you will love a Pietta or Uberti, unlike Ruger. I won't bash a maker just because is not my cup of tea.
It all comes to personal preference. But to say it as it is, the most beautiful thing at Italian SA is ...the price.
All SA clones with firing pin exposed are Colt copies as Colt is the most wanted SA ever. So they built the gun by the 1873 technology. Ruger on the other hand went a step forward and improved things especially internally. Those changes help the competitive shooter who throw down the range thousands of bullets weekly. But the downside is they're more expensive than Italians.

If you fell in love with a Pietta and if you catch a sale on one don't wait. Buy it. You'll love that gun dearly. Same with Uberti.
Now if you plan on joining CAS and shoot competitive I would suggest to put money on the side and buy two Vaquero. I know some people won't agree with me but that's my personal opinion.
When it comes to SA for me there is only one maker: Ruger. But again, that's me.

As a conclusion to the question above: a Pietta will put bullet after bullet exactly where the shooters aim. Over and over.
