223 Rem
7 Rem Mag
7 Rem Mag
7 Rem Mag

7 mag for a mountain rifle, AND biggest game? No thanks. More like...

223 (availability and price)
260 Rem (good ballistics in a short, light rifle)
308 w/irons (savage model 99 perhaps?)
338 winmag or 375 Ruger/H&H. (Because anything less is insufficient for bison or grizzly in my books.)

1) Varmint
2) Mountain (deer, sheep, etc.)
3) Close Range Thick Cover (deer, moose, elk)
4) Big Game (anything that walks in North America)

1) Varmint to me means gophers and such so I vote 223. But for predators I would go with a 22-250
2) For mountain hunting you'll probably have to reach out there. For that I'd say a 7mmRM
3) You should already know what my answer is. 366 Wagner
4) The old "One Rifle" debate. Hard to argue with a 300 WM. Some guys will want more horsepower but I'm not sure it's needed.

Varmint is interesting because I have no interest in a varmint setup for varmints. I just view them as a way to get a heavy barrelled action that shoots super accurate for cheap. If I was actually going after varmints, either .22LR or .223. BUT if it's me, and it's what I'd be actually using a varmint rifle for, then it's .308 baby. So I guess:

.308
.308
.308
.375 Ruger

Number 3 was a hard choice between keeping the .308 theme and the retro-cool nature of the .303

For me:
1. 204 Ruger
2. 257 Weatherby
3. 338 Federal
4. 300 Weatherby

I already own 1, 2 and 4. I really want a 338 Federal short barrel with good irons or ghost rings.
