Unique insurance can protect gun owners against frivolous charges

A quote directly from the most recent CSSA publucation:

The policy covers, among other things, defense from prosecution if someone is charged with an offence stemming#from the use, storage, display, transportation, or handling of a firearm. The policy also covers cases where a firearm#is used in self defense, and the cost of retaining a lawyer

You need to call Groupe Cyr & Lyras Toll Free: 1-855-847-1442 / info@cyrlyras.ca if you live in Quebec

After emailing firearm legal defence and told them that it's not them anymore but La Turquoise, they have done the appropriate correction. They also emailed me to thank me for bringing it to their attention.
I also got the insurance FYI!

Isnt this kind of a dangerous precidense? Are we not creating an opportunity for the government to insist on firearms insurance as it simplifies there cases and drives up the cost of ownership. If it became mandatory you would see costs skyrocket, especially in "high risk" neighborhoods. I am against insurance as a general rule as it is grossly abused as it is. Although i get why people would want it in this case i fear we would be creating a monster that will come back to bite us later.

Even if enforced which I don't think will ever happen, I would be OK with a slightly increased total cost of ownership for the right benefit. I am for insurance as a general rule if provided by a reputable company - especially legal, life and disability insurance for my family. YMMV.

There is fine print in every policy and a way out for any type of insurance company if they so choose to exercise it.

It's not just insurance policies either. Most people are surprised to find out that things like warranty on a new car can be waived at any time, for any reason.

What if the insuarnce were the same as for cars? Mine is over 2k a year as i am in a high risk GTA neighborhood.

You're getting screwed or not telling everything. Have you got into many accidents?
I live in Montreal and I barely pay 900$ per year. And I have a brand new 2 month old car.

In BC, ICBC has a monopoly on car insurance. I pay about $1800 with a full discount and a clean driving record.

I was not aware of that... If it's really the case, I find it disgusting that the government allows that.. They can basically charge you whatever they want and there is nothing you can do about it.

Pretty much. The rates seem to go up ever year. Nice to hear that's not the case in other parts of Canada.

"Bernardo claims there have been cases where charges have been dropped once the crown discovers the defendant has firearm legal defence insurance."

Wow, that's maddening. How corrupt is our legal system when people are punished by the crown who knows they don't have a case.

Oh! Oh! I know the answer!!!
It is very corrupt...it is known to some as the Canadian injustice system.

hi John, on their website they say to contact "info@laturquoise.ca". Is that the same as "info@cyrlyras.ca" ? /cheers - Jay

We all have insurance for our car right? Now let's say you get drunk and decide to drive the car.. You willfully drove the car knowing that you might get caught, and let's say you get into an accident.. Will you complain that the insurance company is screwing you because they refuse to pay for the damages?

Where do you get that foolishness? Car insurance must pay for whatever damage you're covered for, doesn't matter if you were drunk.

Unless you have an abstainer policy, in which you certify that you do not drink alcohol, anywhere, anytime. Ever. Only in that case would damages from drunk driving not be covered.
