Savage 10TR le/military

I had mine out for the second time today, this time I had some 150 Hornady SST , and Berger 168 target .
The Hornady were all crap. The Berger was Alright. I shot two groups under an inch. .835 and.975.
So far The Nosler 150 ballistic tips are the best. .720,.820,.915.
I'm guessing I got a good barrel :)

Powder was Varget.

Varget is my go to for 308 and my milsurps. I seem to have a good barrel as well. All I did was remove action from accustock, clean off the oil, remove scope rail and clean screw holes with qtip and alcohol, remount the rail with blue loctite and torque the action screws. I temporarily mounted a 10x 40 Bushnell Elite. After zeroing my scope and fouling the barrel I got a decent sub MOA group , I pulled the last one. 43gr Varget, LC 1x brass, WLR primer with 168gr BTHP match Hornady 308 projectile with COAL of 2.770. 20160905_104008-1-1.jpg

This is my 10TR, I have finally started my load development for it and so far am thrilled with the results. This group is 5 shots at 100m. Bullet is 178gn BTHP Hornady match.

My bad, looking back at my records, it's actually a 3 shot group. And it was 168SMK handloads..... .406-.308=.098" @ 100y.

And those are just the groups I have taken pictures of and loaded to Photobucket. Iirc, I've posted these pics in this thread way back.....

Long Range Shooting in Lowermainland

Would anyone be able to share their location or GPS coordinates for a good spot to shoot not too far from Langley? I was thinking Jones Lake but I heard the road is washed out. I want to try some long distance stuff with the .308 and .338 but Mission only goes to 300 though I heard it may now be 500. I will pick up after myself and only shoot paper and steel.

Or you could PM me or email me instead. dave.jones@shaw.ca

Dave:)

Hahahaha that's like asking for someone's PIN number for their bank account.

So I just gone mine in, used. It appears something is wrong with it. The side cocking indicator, that also functions as the bolt removal, does indicate when the gun is or is not cocked. However the rear cocking piece on the bolt does not protrude from the bolt assembly screw hole like it's supposed to, according to the manual. The bolt handle is also extremely loose, like this sucker wiggles pretty noisily, and the rear baffle assembly piece moves a lot too. That's less of a concern to me than the cocking indicator not working.

Should I do a disassembly of the bolt or how do I approach fixing this/seeing what the cause of the issue is? I can post pics too if that helps. I'm wondering if I shouldn't just take this to a gunsmith tomorrow.

EDIT: forgot to mention it's a 10FCP HS, if that makes any difference.

Well hello to all; I picked up my first 10TR on Friday, mounted it with my Nikon Monarch 3, 5-20 (44) .308 BDC, using two piece mounts and Leupold QRM rings. I've spent the weekend, when not blocking and splitting wood, reading the 106 pages of this thread, lots of good info, lots of great shooting, lots of sweet looking rigs and lots of chassis' that I can't afford yet (unless someone has something used???) :)) My serial number is in the K's so hopefully all the bendy bugs are worked out, my bolt is a tad sloppy but I can deal with it, reminds me of an SMLE actually.

Has anyone here done anything to improve the accustock; I did see a post where someone had cut the front sides down a bit but think it was a pic from another site. I'm going to fill the butt stock with expanding foam, seems like a sound enough thing to do.

What's the best brake available for it?

I do reload, so will be working on a load for 500 yard shooting; thinking 175 Sierra Match King bullets ... need to settle on a powder.

I'll post pics after I shoot.

I really like my Kel-Tec rfb brake, cheap and they ship direct to Canada

You don't really need to improve the accustock, except like you said if you want to add more weight in the buttstock. There is an aluminium frame Inside the stock for rigidity, so no bedding needed.

If your bolt is a bit sticky, or not cycling smoothly, dry cycle-it a lot (like 200-300 times) and it should improve a lot, that's what I did and now it is smooth as baby skin.

Hi all, is someone have developped a load with Hornady 205 ELD bullets on their 10TR? What are your COAL, or seating depht? Their chambers are somehow very short, and this is a relatively long bullet...
I will develop a load, but if I can somehow shortcut the OAL development it would be great :)

Thanks

It will probably result in a compressed load. Varget or H4895 would be my go to powder, but on that bullet weight I am unsure if you can use a spherical powder. I use the cheap yet effective sharpie coloured bullet when figuring out OAL.

Interesting... Can you explain a bit your method?
