I'm thinking a small, short barrel .410 loaded with BBs.

If this had happened in rural Canada there would have been no news story but they would have a nice hat............

Vancouver woman viciously attacked by a raccoon

A Vancouver woman is now recovering after a bizarre attack in her neighbourhood sent her to hospital.

Karee Toft was walking her dog in East Vancouver early Monday morning when she was viciously attacked by a raccoon.

She tried to fight the animal off but it was relentless, leaving her with more than 50 puncture wounds.

After 15 minutes of screaming for help, neighbours came to her rescue. She was rushed to hospital and given a tetanus shot.

Her dog was also hurt in the attack but is expected to make a full recovery.

“[The raccoon] ran and actually jumped on me and knocked me over and attacked me,” said Toft. “He was in a total frenzy, he didn’t stop. I was holding Indie, our dog, with one hand as far away as I could on the ground.”

“I was trying to kick or get away or punch the raccoon. He just wouldn’t stop.”

Last December, an aggressive raccoon attacked a woman and her dogs in Coal Harbour.

Experts say, when walking your dogs make an effort not to walk near any bushed areas or areas where wild animals may be hiding.

I have a huge coon coming over to my house nearly every night looking for food, he is massive, makes a big mess on the deck and sh1t's all over the place. I have been trying to find a trap big enough to catch and relocate him.

He/she is huge and I think some of my neighbors are feeding him as I have never seen one this big before.

He is bigger than this one -

Oh dear... The raccoons are coming! The raccoons are coming! :sok2

Perhaps we should use this as a level to propose more rational firearms laws... letting us shoot the buggers! I've seen cats being attacked by them. Oh, I'm just dreaming...

I did shoot at one, with a spray bottle, after it tried to get into my apartment a few years ago.

It looked hilarious because its back legs were trying to outrun its front legs when it ran away.

Last November I was "attacked" by a group of them while walking to work. I'd just rounded a corner only to find a whole family happened to be running right at the spot where I was standing.

Some of the little monsters were making "wheek wheek" sounds almost like a guinea pig.

I bolted away only to slip and fall rather badly on a patch of black ice, causing some of the masked marauders to pause and look at me like "Why u no smart?" before continuing to raid hipster garbage cans.

Was going to say pepper spray as well.but I think.it's illegal to carry with you. Crazy canadian laws you can end up in big problems for the.simplest thing. You need to check with an attorney before you do anything.

It is sold as animal defence, and that is what he used it for. Now squirting a mugger would be a different form of animal defence.

Cooey with yellowjackets.

While generally good natured and maybe a little irritating, if you make sudden movements or back a coon into a corner (or you try to tell it that "buildings just fall that way"), watch out!

A cooey with yellowjackets gives you the best of both worlds:

It's only a .22, so not as much risk of hitting planes or shooting through buildings; but since yellowjackets are HP, you still get that "45 punch"

I am no lawyer but I believe if you carry it on you in the city it is considered a concieled weapon very serious charges. If you are out in the forest I think you would.be okay. Not sure though you would need to find out.

I found one on my back deck a few years ago. It just ignored me when I yelled at it and started slowly walking away. I picked up a 5 gallon paint can with about a gallon of paint left in it and flattened him with it. Tough little bastards. He got up and ran away.
