Let's see some pics of your Pimped out Troy PAR

Ya in cheap commie ammo would be sweet. I'm sure with how popular these guns are it's just a matter of time.

Troy specifically states "no cheap steel case ammo" as it may damage the fluted chambers. So I would say no OEM versions are planned.

My Troy PAR .308 arrived in the mail today. First impressions: Looks great, cycles smoothly, trigger has quite a bit of creap but seems quite smooth, magazine is ejected very briskly when the mag release is depressed. It came with 2 10 rd pistol mags one Magpul 5/10 and one Magpul 5/25. Here are a few pictures, the last pic shows the scope I intend to use, but I will need some high rings or PEPR mount.

OK, so why is the safety marked safe/semi? Does troy make a semi auto that uses the same lower?

For those of you with the folding stock, how do you like it?

Mine is very solid but honestly for me a conventional stock would probably serve better. The cheek piece is not very ergonomic and I expect it will be cold has heck come deer season. Also, the stock has to be fully collapsed in order to lock against the receiver. Bit of a pain for not much gain based on my intended use.

A follow up to a OEM pic rail addition from FO to the Troy PAR Alpha forend.

The 2" and pump action pic rails do contact each other but do not interfere with the cycling action.

Sad that the 308 versions have a traditional AR15 buttstock connection but the 223 Optics Ready have some kind of riveted on adaptor like a Keltec SU-16. I have to wonder how strong it is. on the Optics Ready 223.

.

It's clamped on and not riveted to allow the interchangeability between the folding and traditional buffer tube. It has a castle nut minus the locking plate which is unlike the 308 model. It appears strong enough for straight back motion in my .30 Herrett, which does have some kick to it. If you step on it I am not sure.

Just need to be cognizant of the pump mechanism rod length and gas port. Other then that the barrel and extensions are identical.

Here is an illustration of the OEM PAR barrel on the right and a 5.56 AR chamber on the left.

The OEM barrel is considerably thinner which required a modification to the pump action pic rail mounting bolts. The length of the bolts causes them to slightly rub on the contour my new barrel. This was easily remedied by shortening the bolts or can be rectified by using flat washers on the 4 bolts in question.

PAR barrel nut pre and post torquing down onto new barrel.

All the rifles pictures so far have pinned/welded muzzle brakes right? The next batch of PARs have screwed on/detachable muzzle brakes.

My FL creates a pinch point with the IMI grip and is fine with a vertical grip.

To assist the bolt cleaning and break down, I switched to Yankee Hill push pull pins.

The front pin was identical to a mil-spec AR however the rear was slightly different. The pin was similar other then the detent and spring location. The handgrip must be removed to access the very very small Allen screw to work on the captive spring and detent. This lower receiver has the ability to install a folding stock void of a locking ring so an alternate system was nesessary.

The safety detent remains mil-spec.

Pistol Grip Question

I just purchased a Magpul AR15 MIAD for my Troy PAR 308 and it is in the mail. I then tried to rob a Miad from another AR15 rifle to install on my Troy and I found it doesn't fit. There seems to be about a 1 mm gap all around the edge of the PG where it should fit tightly to the lower. Is there a slight difference between the Troy/308 PG and the AR15 PG? If so, who carries the correct Magpul parts?
Thanks

Check to ensure the Allen head rear take down detent/sring capture screw is flush with the lower receiver. This screw maybe slightly protruding from the hole preventing the grip from sitting flush.

I have just purchased a lightly used .308 Troy PAR and will be watching this thread for ideas. It is currently in transit, so I have not even seen or handled one yet. The main modifications that interest me are:

* Trigger - I have a RRA 2 stage on my AR-15 that I reallly like and am used to, so would like to replicate it on the PAR
* Bipod - It seems that a bipod would be better than a bag or rest for a pump action - I'm curious what the mounting options are, since there does not appear to be much lower rail space forward of the pump mechanism.
* Stock - I really don't care for the Troy stock, I think the Magpul UBR would look great on this rifle but don't like the price. Maybe an STR
* Pistol Grip - The Magpul MIAD fits my hand very well, I have it on my AR-15 and SR-22, so this is probably the way I will go.
* Scope/Mount - I have a spare Sightron 4-12x that will get installed for now, not sure what optic to go with long term. I have had good luck with Burris PEPR mounts, so will probably stick with that or a similar mount.

Here is a "before" picture form the seller (scope and mount not included):

Why do people go ahead and install a buffer tube when they don't need to? I think the AR-15's main weakness is that buffer tube since it precludes the ability to fold the stock.
