So a few months ago I bought a Remington M78 in 30/06. For those who don't know, the M78 is the cheapo version of the M700 that was offered before the current SPS line. They are better finished than the SPS and far smoother to operate the bolt.

Not long after receiving this M78 in the mail, I wondered thinking about getting a SS 270 bbl for it and posted a WTB for the same. As luck would have it, I was able to score a new take-off bbl in 270 for a VERY good price.

Not long after getting that PM for the 270 bbl, I received another PM asking if I would like a new take-off in 280 instead.

I ended up buying both, which brings me to THE BIG DILEMMA!

270 vs 280? Which bbl should I use?
:stirthepot2:

270 if you only use factory loads.

280 if you handload.

I have both and had a heckuva a time finding a factory load for my 280 that shot well and had good bullets.

You should get a 260 Rem barrel and put it on.

Then you'll be all the craze like those long action short cartridge Tikka T3's..........

Added bonus*, you could sell it on the EE as a 3 chamberings slow change setup. It would be worth at least $1500........ but remember to post it in the Sporting Guns section first so you can have a behind the scene PM bidding war ;)

I do handload and have lots of brass and bullets for both.

350pcs new R-P 280 brass, but no 280 dies.

Take one round of each and throw them into a hat. Reach in and pull one out. Rebarrel to whatever calibre you have in hand.

OR... I thought I saw a 700 action on the EE... you could have one of each.
