Thanks to Clay and co, their Black Friday sale had me grab a #1 contour Howa Mini Not a Mauser Action in 7.62x39. This feather-light 20" barrel setup will get tested hopefully very shortly and I'll post some pictures.

Always love the way the package is boxed and shipped! Thanks

PS Will be bugging Clay to carry additional mags and the Warne Tactical 20moa base (765620MOA)

Please let us know how it shoots. I would like to put one of those in the vault at some point.

Post some photos! I have a Zastava M85 that I have been tinkering with and I got it to shoot 1/2" groups with my handloads this weekend, really liking the gun so far.

I picked up a #6 contour (heavy barrel) in od green stock from Clay as well.

Shot 50 rds Dominion 7.62x39 out of it with zero issues and impressive accuracy results.

Short range (25m) they were under .5" moa...

Will try to post pics later and hopefully get out to 100m later next week.

Just a small correction to OP.....the action is push feed and not a mauser.

It resembles the Sako bolt but supposedly better extractor with a M16 style.

Looking forward to see how your rifle shoots with good ammo.

Don't think it has much Mauser in it though.

You are correct, it is a push feed. My brain associates "mini" with Mauser, say CZ 527.

And you are the one who got the heavy barrel eh ? :) That was something I was hoping to get, but by then, there was none left.

Somebody else purchased the #2 during the Black Friday sale. #2 contour are all 22", and I wanted a 20", so now we'll see how the pencil thin barrel holds up.

Did you follow the break-in instructions? I plan to use my PRVI Partizan 7.62x39 123gr for break in, then see about some Rus and Chi surplus.

I'll get to pictures on the weekend.

I bought it on Nov 1 ....someone else snagged one on Black Friday.

I did follow the break in but then let loose the last 30 rounds without cleaning. Seems to hold moa very well.
2 stage trigger is alright.... for me , it could be lighter but it's good.
Fit and finish is excellent for the price and a bonus scope is a nice touch. Didn't use it though....mounted my Leupold VX-II with Talley Lightweights.

Which Talley did you end up with on there?

Love how the bolt just fits past the optic. Perhaps that is an illusion.

Good patterning. Hopeful on mine with 3 round groups.

Nice stock colour and love the barrel. Mine's skinnier than I normally like.

From Clay as well......they are the Talley 930700 low mount.

There is good bolt clearance... not too close to the ocular.

where did you guys find these Howas,,i have the Zastava, but this is more of what i wanted, specially after finding out the Savage 10's in 7.62x39 i wanted is a .308 bore,i want a riffle capable of taking cheap surplus, even the Zastava isn't ideal with sticking issues using surplus,i'd really like one like your Howas.

I have a savage 10 and it takes surplus just fine (not alot of great accuracy but 6 inch gong at a hundred all day) using Chinese, Russian, Czech, Romanian and some Barnual just to see. Managed 1 moa at a 100 with old norinco with out really trying. The rest flys about just like you would expect. I'm hoping to try some Dominion soon to see how it goes.

How does the word Mauser come into the title here, they are not Mauser action copy guns are they?? Anyway, just asking.

Because my brain translated (farted) Mini Action into Mini Mauser, given how CZ 527 and other such setups are "common". Don't know if I can edit the title... but I changed the first post to cover this already.

As indicated, Propher River Arms carries Howa Mini Action rifles, among them 7.62x39 models, though it appears to be all out of stock "right now".

My reason to pick this over the CZ 527 that I had been eyeing for so long is the MDT chassis compatibility. I mostly wanted an "inexpensive to fire" centerfire MDT setup. I had wanted the heavy barrel #6 contour, but they were out of stock, so I ended up with the #1.

Honestly, I am very impressed with this light platform and might even keep to "stock configuration" for a little while to see what it does as good baseline.

Always wanted that unicorn Savage 10 in 7.62x39, but I have never encountered one except "on the Internet".

The only thing I don't like about my Howa is the chinsy safety lever. It's stamped steel, feels a little bendy and doesn't afford a very good thumb grip.
