AR180b with a elcan?

I just purchased a ar180b from the ee. It has the ar15 stock conversion done and the rear sight was chopped off with a flattop rail installed. Just wondering if a Elcan would work with this rifle? I have not received the rifle yet. Seems like the top of the receiver on the ar180b is higher than a regular ar15. I'm worried about the height of the optic because I like a good cheek weld. Anyone else run a Elcan on their ar180b?
Thinking of getting a fixed 4x for this rifle and using it for my coyote calling rifle.

Mine is all original with a Stormworkz rail and regular AR height optics are too tall for mine but if your rail sits lower and the stock is slightly higher you may get away with an Elcan. Hard to say until you actually get the rifle and try it though.

Its too bad your rear sight was cut off, this rifle is the best the way it was made, with irons

Agreed, I put an optic on when I want to do load testing but for shooting in the field I prefer the irons, you tuck right in with a perfect cheek weld and let the lead fly. No need for high magnification since the best I've seen so far is around 2 moa.

Pictures to come later this weekend. I have been running an elcan on my 180 since the early 2000s for yotes---Dieseldog!

Is your 180 original or do you have a stock adapter and different stock? QD rail or something else?
Are you getting a nice cheek weld or more of a jaw weld (tactical beard weld).
The design and placement of the stock is perfect for the original sight line which is why I don't run optics on mine, everything I've tried on it still places the sight line higher than the original sights which ruins the ability to get your cheek down solid on the stock.

is the sole reason people like elcans, because the CF use them? its a garbage optic... propped up by a military contract

I have a Specter DR and it's my favorite low magnification optic. I own a couple other 1-4 scopes and the Specter is noticeably clearer and the reticle is better than any others I've tried including my Vortex Viper PST. I've also never had to adjust the zero once it's set so it seems to be superior to any other low magnification optic out there in all categories other than price and weight.
I would have a hard time paying full retail for one but since I got mine in a trade for a rifle worth substantially less I can't complain.

specter is a little different it was designed with tighter tolerances than the standard c79 but just as you said, its not a optic you go and pay retail price for. given its made in canada and not china, id say it would be an acceptable optic in the $4-600 (if that) but not $1200

ELCAN is Specter DR is one of the best combat optics on the market and being used by many elite units. But if you're just going to the range, I would just buy a Specter OS4.

Not sure when you were in the CAF Pringles, but ELCAN has fixed all of the issues with the old gen C79. It's still heavy and bulky, but so are many of our soldiers :p

I haven't been out that long and was in when the service optic was the c79A2, and used specter when i was in CSOR elite units or not its vastly overrated like many things in the army or tier 2.

Dsiwy, how does one tell if a specific C79 has the fixes applied? Cheers.

Specter DR never owned just stood behind it, and i may have overstated, they aren't a horrible optic, they are a horrible optic for the price point

I have owned a 1-4 DR before, the field of view and optics clarity is awesome.
I agree with you on the price point, especially the price surge in the last couple of years.
When I used it for SR, it was somewhat justifiable as a piece of sports equipment. Since I switched away to another scope, it became a plinking toy hence not justifiable. So I sold it.

Well your peers and SME pick the spectre DR lol
