9mm vs. 45ACP

Yup.... agree with everything he said and indeed, he is entertaining.

Since this will end up being a can of worms discussion I might as well stir the pot.

Recently I read an article on the 9mm vs .45 acp debate and the guy brought up an interesting point I never really considered ..

In a nut shell the writer said:

Ok sure, 9 mm has closed the gap with modern ammo design (which I agree with), but when the zombies come over the hill and you run out of the expensive effective 9mm and you're down to only FMJ .... the .45 FMJ now trumps the 9mm FMJ hands down.

I'm not offing an opinion on that, just thought it was an interesting point to consider.

Hmmm, isn't 9 vs 45 almost along the line '06 vs. 45-70? All depends on what you want to do with it, I guess. Given that both would only be good for small/small medium game as a sporting arm, I guess I'd go with the 9, because stopping power won't matter much against a rabbit, fox or 'yote.

I have shot both and I prefer the 9mm with no doubt. The recoil on the 45 makes it less effective for follow up shots.

My Dad did a job in Egypt years ago in the early 80s. At the hotel he stayed at there was a heavily armed security presence and during the time that he was there he made friends with the head of security. They got to talking about guns (where do you think I got the gun-nuttery from?) and the security man (an Egyptian) was maligning the 38 revolver he was carrying instead of his 45 ACP. He explained how it was nearly impossible to obtain 45 ammo and that he would be much rather be carrying the 45. A couple of days later Dad happened upon a couple of US Air Force guys that were serving in the area and inquired how hard it would be to find a couple of cases of 45 hardball. In short order they produced the ammo and Dad was very well treated for the rest of his stay by the Security Chief.

Granted, that was in the early 80s (might even have been 1980) and ammo technology has improved immensely since then, but given all the givens, a man under very real threat of having a very bad day, wanted ammo for his 45 ACP. Makes sense to me.

:agree: Both are dandy for small to mid-weight critters & even deer in close. It's nice to have both.;)

Spanish Destroyer 9mm. Largo (.38 Super brass works well in these.)

Well... The debate was ended for me when this question was posed to me, "which would you rather stand in front of"? I replied "neither" he looked me in the eye, said "Smart lad" and moved on with his day.

I don't care what caliber it is, and neither will any of the wounding mechanisms that shut the human body down.

I'll pose the question based on my earlier response...

lets forget all the modern ammo advances for a moment.

9 mm FMJ vs .45 act FMJ ?

Yup, entertaining but totally irrelevant to us.
45s make bigger holes in the paper target, that's all that matters for Canadians.

Well I have had a lot of embarrassing moments trying to hit targets with handguns...but the most embarrassing was firing 6 rounds into the ground 20ft in front of me instead of hitting the target at 20m..with an issued Colt 1911 .45. I like the 9mm. Afterall if, if I cant hit it - calibre is irrelevant.
