Any chance of seeing 5.45x39?

My opinion is that the primary attraction for the SKS is the fact that it's dirt cheap. Assuming that it's only the barrel that needs to changed (which I guarantee isnt the case), it already prices itself out of my interest.

That said, cheap 5.45 would actually encourage me to put an AR together.

X2 on this

An sks with a barrel, bolt and mag change is still going to be cheaper than buying a xcr or upper for an AR. If ammo becomes more readily available i may just dust off my dad's old lathe and get some barrel blanks and see if i can make something work. I will have to tig weld the bolt face for the smaller 545x39 rim. Will need to get one of those AR SKS mag blocks to run a 5.45x39 AR mag since the 545x39 wont run reliably in 762x39 mags

The problem is not 7.62x39 ammo drying up, they made are over 40 million AK's, so the consumer base is there to support the ammo production, The problem is with getting them into the country. Canada Ammo is having a hard time getting shipping companies to do the shipping, something about mixing explosive material containers along with regular containers on the same ship.

There are currently no shipping issues from China. Russia is troublesome.

5.45x39 non restricted is the key sorry to say AR's in 5.45x39 are not a large enough market and its restricted.

Can't be any smaller then 7.62x39 or .300 blk, those guns sell pretty damn well.if an importer started bringing in 5.45 with a steady supply, and sold the conversion kits for AR's I guarantee they'd sell at least as well as 7.62x39

An NR T81 or CZ858 in 5.45 would be ideal IMO. Not sure why they never made a CSA in 5.45. Seems more traditional than one in 5.56.

I would drop x39 so damn fast. And build a 5.45 build. I know personally know
50 guys would do the same. I would also get a new bolt and barrell for acr

5.56 for me would be a last resort. I don't like the idea of paying almost as much for .22 ammo than norc 7.62x51. If there was a 5.45 option I'd be all over it.

drop, maybe it,but build another upper, hell yeah.ive got a dozen(maybe more if I cobbled together my parts bin bits) right now in various calibers, and honestly in my mind, what's one more to add to that to shoot a very Wallet friendly round.

Exactly my though, since the Norinco 5.56 ammo dried up,my 5.56 and .223 uppers have sat on the shelf more then I've used them, in fact I've actually started shooting my .308 ar10 more now since the hirtenberger 7.62x51 showed up in Canada,it's hard to find 5.56 for as good a deal as that stuff....that's not steel cased MFS at least...though that said I have a cheap upper I built just to shoot that stuff, and short of a few misfires, and a few pushed in projectiles while feeding,it's been good ....but it's still nowhere near the price of surplus 7.62 or 5.45,and honestly that's what I'm looking for when I started this whole thread, was to find, not so much as a replacement for 7.62x39,but another option,at a similar price to give us more to choose from.

I'm in talks now with a few importers to try to get a manufacturer to get registered with the state department to export the barrel and bolt for me,and the few retailers I've spoke to can get me some 5.45,though not for the lovely price we see south of the border, but still a lot cheaper then 5.56,so I think I'm going to bite the bullet and just dish out the cash for the parts(if they'll play game).

So what happened to Norc 5.56 ? It really dried up ?

CanAm just got a bunch of new production x39 from Norc,so I'm sure they could still produce it,why they aren't,I have no idea, other then maybe a lack of demand(out market is hardly worth their time, where as x39 can be sold anywhere, and with the current conflicts in the Middle East I'm willing to bet that's why we are seeing new production x39 from them)

Yes, they make. Price is the same as PMC

There is a Canadian company manufacturing nr guns similar to the CZ. I doubt it would take much convincing to have them add that calibre.
