I live in a small town. There were two 6 inch colt pythons at our tiny fly and tackle/gun shop. One stainless, unfired. One blued in perfect condition, but fired. They came in their respective old cardboard boxes.

I could have bought them (if I had what is called money) as I was right there, silent auction sort of thing took em both for $3000... gotta have money to make money I guess.

Holy crap...that's what Lines of Credit are for! :) You'd have doubled your money (or more!)

(I'm guessing you meant two six inch Pythons)

Man that had to hurt...master-g nailed it...that's what line of credit is for...might have scored one for free....

You been out in the sun too long ,son.

Lol... problem is, I didn't know what they were going to sell for! If I had made an offer, it would have been waaay higher than $3000.

AND!! I showed the store owner the blued one on the EE for $4500 a few days before they sold. He just said "I know". So I thought he knew what they were worth. Ie, way outta my price range!

I asked him what the other guys offer was, and he didn't want to tell me.... I guess he didn't want to make money that day

Well I just went back to the shop, and no money has transferred hands yet!

I offered him $4000, and he is saying it is all said and done. So I just reitered, if you haven't recieved payment, and have not initiated the transfers yet, then we should deal... you are running a business correct?

I wrote him an email as well, in case he comes round.

Good luck. At $3K for both, I'd have handed over the CC in a heartbeat. I'd probably end up keeping one then selling the other for $3K. or $5K in the EE. lol

Brutus...you may well be right...but a smoking deal is a smoking deal...I wouldn't have had a second thought...recon I could even justify that one to the 'memsaab'.....

Sometimes you get that feeling in the stomach and just seize the opportunity.. if it goes it goes

I guess this depends where your mind is at in life.

From a guy with 14 handguns here, I would rather buy a really nice SxS or O/U shotgun for that kind of cash outlay.

but that's just me......

Fair assessment, but at 3 grand you could buy both. Sell the unfired one, keep the other and break even.

Yup, buying an expensive "safe queen" (aka a paper weight) because it's the flavour of the month makes perfect sense - not! Worse yet, going into debt for it.

I can afford any gun I want, but I can't justify having one that I don't shoot. Having said that, I will admit to owning one "antique", a pristine Tranter .450 Army. Do I shoot it? Occasionally. Will I part with it? Not likely.

We only get one kick at the cat, so I guess I do understand the Python mystique after all.

If you like them, and can afford them, and they go up in value in the long term, why doesn't it make sense? I have way more firearms than I can possibly shoot. So I shoot the guns that I want to, and polish the guns that I have just because I like them. Each to their own, but guns are probably a better investment to have in the safe than silver and gold bullion.
