I have seen lots of movies and pics of SKS, but just thought I would mention I just watched a Mash episode, where Hawkeye was commandeered by a North Korean soldier and the soldier was sporting an SKS, bayo was gone but it was a Russian based on the stock, couldn't tell for sure but looked like an earlier SKS version! Cool.

Lots of US milsurp on MASH.

To be correct it should be Russian. The Koreans and Chinese didn't start making sks until after the Korean War.

To be really correct it would be an earlier Russian SKS. The Korean War was Jun 25, 1950 – Jul 27, 1953

Given how "new" the sks was in regular Russian production there has been talk about how it would be unlikely the North Korean army would be issued them. However Russian advisors may have been in county with them.

Actor with the SKS was in an episode of the old Time tunnel Show carrying a Type 99 rifle and he also carried a spear in the Conan the Barbarian movie!

I just remembered his name which is Mako.

The Koreans used:
Sks
Mosin
Svt-40
Mauser
Enfields
1903a3
Garand captured

According to wikipedia

Wikipedia says those guns were involved in the conflict. Wikipedia doesn't say with which armies. The Russian sks was 3 years old at the time and was modern equipment for the Russian alongside the ak47. They weren't giving them over en masse to the Koreans. And they didn't even start licencing out the design to satelite states for another 3 years after the war ended.

The Koreans were getting capture weapons by the Russians. Usually stuff they didn't make as to keep the US from reacting accordingly. Hence why most of the guns listed are not of Russian origin.

Sks would have been in country only with Russian advisors if any at all.

I have read there were occasionally SKS's found in the war, among the Chinese/Korean troops. Would've been devastating at the time. Dare I say I'd take it over damn near any other weapon used in the conflict? Maybe an M2 Carbine, but as far as small arms go it'd be tough between the M2, SKS, with the Garand coming in a respectable third.

Mako wasn't just in the one episode of M*A*S*H either.

Dr. Lin Tam "Rainbow Bridge"
Major Choi "Hawkeye Get Your Gun"
Lt. Hung Lee Park "Guerilla My Dreams"
Li Han "The Best of Enemies"

But I grew up with him being "Mr Lee" in Sidekicks, Directed by Aaron Norris (Chucks brother) and staring Chuck Norris! That movie has some of the worst rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but I'll love it for ever! :D

Oh yeah... oooo pretty sks....

Actually the one I looked at said what each side used. I'm sure the good guys didn't use the sks or the svt-40 or the mosin

If they used sks's it would have been in small numbers. I bet most used a Mosin with officers using the sub machine guns. So the good guys out gunned the bad guys but the bad guys out numbered the good guys.
