M14 Op-Rod is very uncomfortable

When I first got mine I had the same thoughts as you ( mine was sharp and would dig in badly ) the thing is if you cut it off and replace it with something more contoured it will have to be very close to the same weight as that finger hacker a difference in weight will afect the cycling/Reliability . What I did was , I used some heat Shrink tubing( the kind for electric conections) the kind with glue , I put on two layers and all is good so far . I was going to replace the lever with a roller knob and Allen Bolt. Just because they made millions doesn't mean it can't be improved Upon. Any grunt that has had field time will tell ya how great all there kit is and how well it works for everyone !

too much time spent just pecking computer keys, do something physical and harden your skin. these things were designed before electrically heated car seat. :)

judging by the comments, it isnt only me that thinks it sucks. think i might milled if off and get a knob welded on.
At the time you posted this only one dude kind of halfway agreed with you ("I find mine sharp only during very cold weather"), and no one said it sucks. I think you are reading what you want to read.

and maybe a name change is in order- from what I remember the powerwagon was one tough truck, not el gato

I'm not sure welding on a new handle is such a great idea, unless you want to first anneal and then re-heat treat the op-rod after it welded.

You could turn and thread the handle, a-la a over size bolt knob.

Or mill the surface smooth, drill a hole and use a bolt and knob type instal.

I have seen some Chinese op-rods with edges that were very rough and in need of some TLC. One memorable one was like grabbing a full-ish pocket knife. If gripped with any "aggressiveness" you would wind up with DNA all over the rifle....

No reason you can't do what you like with your iron PW.

from the sounds of things, it sounds like the op has tried several op-rods- my hands are NOWHERE near the oprod when shouldered- i'd love some PICTURES rather than trying to do surgery over the internet

Cut and weld? Man, I hope you are dead positive that you intend to keep that gun forever...because once you dive that deep into the Bubba-pool, your odds of ever selling that gun plummet to near zero.

I can't think of anything that wouldn't look dumb as #### on there.....an oversized Badger knob? Just a terrible idea lol.
Round off the edges if your girly hands can't rack it. Then run the sandpaper over your hands to man them up a bit...

man I duno what you guys do for a living, but ive never had a prob I usually hold my hand palm up and rack it with my lil finger. metro ###ual indeed

I had a similar problem with one of mine. I Fixed that with a small jewelers file and cold blue. Done!!

every time i use it i feel like it is trying to cut off my finger. edges hurt. not just mine, but every one i have ever tried. seems as though they never even heard of the word "ergonomics" when the made it.

has anyone milled off the knife blade handle and had a knob installed like from a bolt gun?

Maybe you need an 8-Ball Knob or a Pistol Grip Shifter for that Hemi M14 Op-Rod!

Quit using the wife's moisturizers and you'll be fine. Milk toast post of the day.
