Hi all .
I just love older rim fires , and every spring the gophers get to meet their makers courtesy of whatever new rim fire project I was able to acquire in the winter .
This year I'm going to try to find a Remington Nylon as I've always been fascinated with them .
In Alberta , gun shows are aplenty and I'm hoping to pick one up by hitting a few in the coming months .

I'd appreciate ANY and all opinions on what I might want to be on the lookout for while searching , like parts that are commonly missing , areas of the nylons that I should examine etc , to hopefully find a decent example .

Thus far in my research I'm pretty sure that the preponderance of available options will be of the model 66 variety AND prices will be from about $200 for a rough example to $450 for a cherry one , at least of the few examples I've noticed at gun shows that seems the case .

Any information you all can add will be appreciated gents and ladies .

I have a 77. It is a tack driver. I have not had much luck with the mags though. The 10rd mag seems happy as long as I don't put more than 7 rounds in. The 5rd mag doesn't mind if I fill her up.

I had 2 as a kid and used them to hunt varmints. They never failed and a lot of ground hogs fell. I remember using the cil hollow points and only open sights.
That said I bought a cherry 69a last year at a gun show and have to agree with kamlooky it's a sweet right. Very light steel and wood, drop out mag and increadable accuracy for any rimfire. It's one of my favorite firearms and I also own a few anschutz.
 
I had an Apache 66 worked like a charm for 20+ years before I learned to clean it . It finally quit cycling so after a Google and a proper cleaning off it went again . Nice light fairly accurate 22 , one thing on mine I did not like was the scope rail , the grooves were rounded with a one piece chromed plate over the reciever area . Wasn't crazy about the chrome after a while either
 
got a 66 built in 52ish or so ive bin told by a guy whos got a few of them. tube feeds are the way to go they just feed everything. picked it up for 250 mint cond at the kamloops gun show last year. they shoot great and some peaple will tell you there hard to take apart tho not as easy as a 10/22 there not that hard. if your looken for a project/ beater sfrc has one
 
Thank you all so very much for your guidance . Now I really really want one , lol . I'll be on the lookout for ANY of the models but for me I really like the semis for gophers ...though I'd sure like to find a lever , what a rarity that would be !
 
Never disassemble. Clean the barrel with a rod and receiver with a qtip.

I love when people tell me they took their's apart and can't get it back together again.

I have done it so often I got very good at it.

I had one as a kid and loved it. I have one now and really don't want to sell it but it is in the EE.
 
I have one; tubular magazine. Back in the '80s when we still hunted raccoon fof fir, I used it 4 seasons and shot over 1000 raccoon with it. I am not joking. Flawless operation with a 6 power Tasco scope.
 
I have a 66 and sold a 77. The built in tube mag of the 66 is much more reliable.

I sold a new in the box 66 5 years ago for $600. !!

I clean the action with a shot of brake cleaner followed by a shot of G96.
 
I have 2 and they are amazing little guns. 300 to 400 is a good ballpark price, I also like the mag tube ones to. They are simple and reliable . Have fun
 
Had a 66 Mohawk brown as a teenager it ran flawlessly with pretty much any ammo .it shot minute of rabbit head no problem . my neighbour an older gentleman had 3 of the nylon series a lever ,a model 77 and what I believe was a model 11 maybe . bolt action but can't remember what type of magazine it had . have never seen one since that I can recall . Just got a 77 10c ( circa 1973/74) at Camrose gun show. Great shape but has unusual jewelled silver diamonds, not usual whites. Anyone have an idea why this one's different?
