How's my accuracy? What can I do to improve?

Hey guys,

I was at the range with a buddy the other day with my P226 MK25. I have been shooting pistols casually for about a year now. Recently I have been making an effort to shoot more accurately...changing my grip etc (I just posted something that showed im still not gripping it quite right!).

I emptied 2 10 rnd mags at a target 25m away. Here is the grouping (notice not all 20 hit the target). I was about to throw away the target, but my buddy said that was some pretty good shooting, so i decided to save it.

How IS my shooting???

My grouping seems to be to the left. According to that training circle at the bottom, it says my finger is not on the trigger correctly. Do you think that's the case? do you trust those little circles?
Does anybody have a link for what they believe is proper trigger finger placement???

Thanks!

Google is your friend. There are many experts on this CGNutz community who can help you out. Let's see what they have to say.

Me? I need to SEE you and your grip.... so I can tweak this very common mistake... :nest: But that's only me (IMHO) :p

Cheers,

Hey thanks Barney!

Now that you mention it, your Garrison Petawawa CQB Clinic on 22/23 April 2017 looks like a great opportunity for you to check out my grip!

Thanks!

Doesn't look too bad to me at 25, are you left or right handed? If you are right handed it looks to me like you are pushing slightly left instead of coming straight back with your trigger finger( if left handed you are pulling slightly left) , but i am a rookie also, I'm sure some of the experienced guys will chime in soon.Do you dry fire at home?? Practice pulling straight back while at home, when the trigger breaks your front sight shouldn't move, concentrate only on the front sight.

Not a bad group. Now that you have a vroup, and it generally in the same spot then you need to adjust your sights so that the group is at your point of aim.

If you're ever in the Peterborough area hit me up. I'll get you shooting the X out with your 9. Can't do jack for ya online.

Agreed with above statement, I belong to the Trent valley range if your ever up that way. I have instructed and coached many on Sig and could give you a lot of tips on the range.

For 25m that's not shabby at all.

Assuming you're right handed putting your finger through a mm or two further onto the trigger might pull the group over to center. As suggested it's possible you're "pushing" the gun and one possible cause of that is your finger not coming back directly along the center line of the gun. And that can occur if your finger is not far enough onto the trigger. And even that is just something you can try since there's a few other possible causes.

Other than that I'd also agree that a coach breathing down your neck is worth a barrel load of interwebz comments.

You literally can't see the target at that range and with pistols you have to focus on the front which makes the target a blur. Honesty, I think you are doing pretty good. try a target that has more contrast.

Accuracy has absolutely nothing to do with your grip. Handgun accuracy is 99% managing your flinch and 1% everything else. Unlike some others on here I can help you over the internet. Wanna play a game? For the next few weeks dry fire you handgun 100 times per day. Use the following penny drill:

Place a penny (coin) on your front sight:

Focus only on your front sight:

Squeeze the trigger directly to the rear with smooth, steady, consistent pressure so that the penny doesn't fall.

After three weeks go to the range and shoot a new target (something closer than 25m to start, 15 yards maybe?). Make sure you post it here so we can all see what happened.

Yes I am right handed. I bought some snap caps and practised, but I should look at making sure I have a straight trigger pull. Thanks!

Wow I would appreciate any tips! I was just hoping to get some pointers or links online! but this is great! I'd buy lunch. I'm not that experienced, but I definitely dont want to build any bad habits.

Same gun but I can only get this accurate at 10m. Nice shooting.

hahah Thanks! I was a little surprised myself. I usually shoot at target sports north of toronto, and that range is pretty dark and dingy. A friend brought me to the Barrie range, and it was so clean and bright. It made things so much easier when I could see my target!

well im sitting at my desk with some snap caps. I am certainly not pulling down the center of the gun. So many things to consider!

Yes I was pretty much putting the whole target in my sight picture. I was trying to aim small, but it was indeed hard. It was pretty bright, so that helped.

I will take you up on this sir. I'm practising as we speak!!!

Edit. Man. Exhausted after 20! about the same fatigue as shooting!
