I about to buy my first glock . I'm hesitating between g19 and g17 . I love the badass look of the g19 threaded barrel but i am concerned about the smaller grip.

Anyone here have both? And is the smaller grip is annoying compare to the g17?

I prefer the full size G17, I like the full size grip length. Depends on your hand size tho, if you never handled ether you might hate both.

The grip isn't smaller, just shorter. G17 mags fit a G19 also.
I own both and have no trouble with both. If you have wide hands, the 19 can feel shorter. If you play action games, you might pinch your hand doing speed reloads with a 19. The magwell "feels" smaller somehow. This is illogical since, like I said, G17 mags fit a 19, so they should be the same. But I can speed reload a G17 faster than a G19. Maybe the longer grip and mag on the G17 helps.
I have used both for competition and , with a good holster ( in fact, I use the same holster for both!) they carry very similarly.
The G17 is better for IDPA or IPSC due to more grip to hold. The G19 is best for "real" world issues. Accuracy is the same.
The best thing to do is to handle both. Try doing quick reloads and mag changes and re-acquiring your target drills. You'll see which one works for you very quickly.

Another vote for the 19. I went back and forth, owned 4 different 17s and 4 19s before landing on a gen 3 19. What ended up working for me was adding a grip sleeve. My fingers don't agree with the finger grooves on a Glock grip, and while the Hogue grips sleeve adds girth and the palm swells really make a difference, you're still stuck with finger grooves. So I went with a Pachmayr. World of difference, as it essentially makes the grooves disappear.

At the end of the day, I think it's more the thickness of your fingers than the size of your whole hand that will determine which fits better. Good luck!

Not to sure why you would consider the G 19. The 19 and 23 are compacts designed for concealed carry. This will never be allowed in Canada. The shorter barrel will reduce accuracy and is not as pleasant to shoot, so if you are planning on using it for target shooting, IPSC, or IDPA competition, it is not practical. If you plan on buying a gun where the primary focus is to keep it in the safe and say 'I got it, and it looks cool', well, that is all that compacts really are good for here in Canada.

My G19 Gen 4 LW 106mm have replaced all my Glocks... JP.:dancingbanana:

I've got fairly small dink fingers and the 19 seems to fit it perfectly. I used to feel like my pinky finger wasn't very secure on the gun so I added an agency Arms magwell and now it's absolutely perfect. Only downside is shooting in winter with gloves on, then I find it's a little difficult to shoot, but that's one of the reasons I have a 17 as well.
It's the only time I'll make the useless recommendation of actually getting both. Or just get the 17 as you won't have any fitment issues and it'll be fairly cheaper than a 17 if you're buying from the EE

my Gen2 Glock 19 is more accurate than my Gen3 Glock 22 and my Gen4 Glock 34 and very Pleasant to shot.

I've been through all the 17's.

Recently picked up the sniper grey.

I enjoy the 17 more due to...

- better two hand grip
- more color options at the moment
- cost less
- no Pinocchio barrel

The pure reason 19 exists is for CCW.

Hence it's reputation for carry in the US.

A moot point here in Canada.

If you have small hands then the 19 will probably fit you better. The 17 has never felt good in my hands (though better with the Gen. 4) but the 19 fits like a glove. I agree with IM_Lugger, you should handle at least one of them before buying because you may not like the feel of either.

Barrel length affects velocity, not accuracy. That is one of the most annoying myths in the gun world. Also, the Glock 19 is a 9mm, I have never fired a 9mm that was unpleasant to shoot. This includes the 26 and S&W Shield.

I would argue the opposite. The only point of a gun as large as the Glock 17 is to have 17 rounds in the magazine making it pointless in Canada. Might as well have the smaller gun if it holds the same amount.
