Reboring 30-06 to 9.3x62

Better figure out the details on the phone with him tomorrow, there was a couple other gunsmiths mentioned in one of these threads.

I'd really like to turn my steyr into a 9.3x62 from a 30-06, it sounds like 250 grain accubonds will do 2700 out of the tikka, to me that has some advantages over 180's doing 2800-2850 out of the 30-06
 
I've sent an email to Bob Jury. Hopefully he'll be able to do it.

.366 250 Accubonds have gone the way of the Dodo bird haven't seen any for years, I sent an email to Nosler asking if they have been discontinued never received a reply
 
I got a quick response from Bob Jury and this is what he said:

"Hi ###X, it's too short for the spindle on my machine.I could try making a barrel extension to hold it.
With reboring there's a chance of things going wrong, if I mess it up the risk is yours."

I'll see if the gentleman in Edmonton mentioned earlier in the thread can do it. If not I'll go with a 35 whelen. I don't want to risk ruining my barrel. I just wish I didn't jump the gun and buy 100 9.3x62 lapua brass, bullets, and cartridges.
 
Why not sell it and buy a Tikka T3 in 9.3x62 ? They aren't hard to find I bought one a Milarm in Edmonton they had 3

This was a rather pricey rifle to put together. Given how one off rifles sell on the EE I'd be lucky to get 50% of what I put into it, not to mention I really like the rifle. No knock on tikkas though. I just bought a tikka battue lite in 30-06 ;)

You're first in line if I decide to sell the 9.3 bullets.

Just call Marshal at 604-814-5091, and order some Matrix Bonded Cores from him. Perform like an Accubond, and have been more accurate in the rifles I have shot them in. The few I have recovered from game are expanded to more than double, and retain 90% original weight. This one was 270 gr taken from a big bear.



He also makes a 250 grain. Best of all, they are made in Canada!

I am going to try some of those this fall on moose, made in Canada but you pay in US funds? Works out to the same price as Accubonds would be. I stocked up on 270 Speers for the range and blowing up milk jugs at the farm.
 
Yes, they are about the same price us Accubonds. 90% of his production goes to the US, and they are priced accordingly. The excellent Trigger-Tech triggers, which are also made in Canada are the same, priced in US funds.

Ask c-fbmi what he thinks of them. He killed a grizzly with one last year with his 9.3X#00 Win Mag. IIRC, the bullet impact was about 3000 fps, and the recovered bullet was 90+% the original weight.

I shot a few black bears with 270 gr Matrix bullets. I have not recovered any bullets. They all went through the bodies. Never need a second shot.

My reply from Nosler For the Accubond fans:
the 9.3mm (.366 dia) 250 AccuBond has not been discontinued. The next scheduled run of them is in October.

I have a couple of friends in Alaska who have had rebores done to 9.3X62. This one belongs to a Wildlife State Trooper (game warden). He had JES rebore and shorten the barrel to 20 1/2 inches.




It is a Model 70, however yours will be quite similar to it when done. He uses it for everything from Sitka Blacktails to Alaska Brown Bear. He finds it so handy, he uses it for his goat hunts, and has killed at least two that I know of using 250 Accubonds.

Just dropped my left handed rifle off and talked to Ron this morning, I think he's charging me half the cost of the reamer, anyone else pondering this expect to save a few bucks on not having to purchase that.

Ron seemed friendly but busy, and probably should have retired from it years ago as he's getting up there in his years.

I sent mine in the mail yesterday. I told him I'd pay for half the reamer as well. Would be good if we could spilt the customer half of the cost so one guy doesn't have to pay for all of it.

I told him if someone else was gonna do a rechamber we could split the costs, he seemed to be drawing a bit of a blank, I suspect he is getting a bit absent minded at 81, if I knew your name I would have mentioned, I think he's not interested in following CGN threads at this time, so we might have to mention it, but I don't mind paying for half the tool either way.

He talked me into a gain twist barrel, said everyone who has had it done wants more done. Neat little shop, a mess, with about fifty 15 foot long lengths of undrilled steel for barrels on pallets building up patina beside the shop. Was worth the drive.

Finally picked it up today, got a tour of his equipment and shop, showed me the machine he built to cut gain twists, so cool, so stoked to get my rifle back too!!
