Prs gas gun series-who would be interested

Was reviewing the rules and videos but still not sure how this format differs from the bolt events.

So in the bolt gun series, you are given targets to hit with so many rds, in a limited amount of time... ie 4 targets, 2rds each, all within 2 1/2 mins. Whether you do it in 1 min or 2 mins 29secs doesn't matter. Just hit the target as often as possible.

For the gas gun, it sounds like you have targets, unlimited rds to hit, but you are shooting against the clock (like IPSC)... the faster to complete the better. Time penalties are applied when a shooter doesn't hit the target or the wrong target

Am I understanding the matches properly?

It's more like IDPA rules Jerry, your time + penalties. Fast time wins. Kinda like an IPSC match with a gas gun. Check this YouTube video out by Shawn Wiseman, president of PRS.

I also do not have a gas gun, but would very much be interested in more bolt gun matches!

WRAS will be hosting 2 PRS style matches at the Edson fish and game Range this year in addition to a gas gun match. Details to follow soon.

I'm sure you guys have already thought of this, but why not just run a separate division for gas guns? Would you change up the course of fire that much going from bolts to gassers?

I'm interested, but can't make any commitments to attend unfortunately.

They are different. You can shoot a gas gun in the bolt gun series as it is more precision oriented. The Gas Gun Series will have precision, but it will also have stages that are like 3 gun that are fast and where you fire a lot of rounds at closer distances. A boltgun won't be competitive in a match that was designed for the gassers.

Thanks Kombayotch.
I have been wondering about that myself we are discussing running a bolt match within the gasser match. The problem lies with timing and stage structure so I'm not sure we have enough help to pull it off. I'm also not opposed to bolt guys competing in the gasser but as mentioned some stages will be fast and furious and not conducive to a bolt gun style of shooting, but practice is practice and if you use the event for that sort of thing it may be ok. As well, as this is the first style of this type of match we are attempting, we are thinking of being out to a max of 500 meters, as most folks will be running an AR15 or other gas guns in .223 cal. I have seen very few with an AR10/SR25 type rifles out there, but this event will help us gauge interest and see what people are running, that being said, flipincanadian ran his ACR last year in our PRS events and did not bad. These events will have a preregistration, so we will see what kind of interest these series generate.

When we get more details about the course of fire I think I may try to use my bolt gun. I won't be very competitive with the close range rapid fire targets but I figure I may have the edge on 500 meter 2 MOA targets.

It's all just for fun and I could use the practice.

I would think the COF would look totally different, but that's just my thinking based on what i've seen at other gas gun matches

Working on stages for this match this weekend. What distance would most feel comfortable shooting their gas gun to? I was thinking of max 600m for our first go at this. What do you guys think, I want this to be challenging but obtainable for the masses.

If I pick up a cheap Sks and sling my bolt gun over my shoulder for the longer engagements, I should be set. No?

I don't think so. The targets are no smaller than 2 moa. I have a stag that can hit around 1 to 1.5 moa. And the guys in the video recommend a magnification range of 3 to 15 or 18, but there is nothing wrong with a 4 to 25x. And since it's for time, you'll want something more capable.

I read both the regular PRS and the gas gun PRS rule book and the only rule difference I noticed other than stage design rules was that in regular PRS stages bolts must be open and chambers empty while moving but in gas gun matches this isn't a requirement.

Is that the only thing a shooter has to do differently?
