I came across an SKS deal. It's 1954 Tula, refurb, hardwood for $240. The guy said it's 1954 so it's chrome lined. I was wondering what you guys think? Is it worth $240? Is all 1954's Chrome lined?

Thats the price they sell around here + taxe.

If in good condition, its not what I'd call a deal, but its the going price

I just went to the Garden City Canadian Tire in Winnipeg and noticed that their SKSs have gone up from $259 to $279. Got flyer from Cabela's today and they dropped theirs from $259 to $239.

I would say 240 is a good price right now, I checked my CT store and there asking 299 for hardwood, and 399 for laminate. I know there are a few places on line that are asking a lot less then that. It should have the chrome lined barrel, from what I understand anything 52 and up is chrome lined.

Last year they had some for 249 some for 279. I waited half an hour for the customer service guy (apparently only 1 guy had the key to the cabinet) to come open the cabinet so I could take a look at them but nobody showed up so I left.

It's chrome lined 100%. The bare steel barrels are pretty much only found on select early rifles with dates ranging from 1949-early 1951. Many refurbished rifles from those years had their barrels replaced with chrome lined ones later on.

I have a 1951 wood, 1953 laminate , 1954 wood and 1956 laminate

All of them shoot well. Last year i hunted deer unsuccessfully with the '56 (nil opportunities) but managed to take the head off a grouse at 25 yards.

All of my SKS are chrome bore. Personally I consider it a nice feature. The SKS is a durable reliable rifle not a match rifle.

Our CTC wil be selling the ultra super duper special sks for $300. He only brought 10 in, I looked at a couple and 3 out of 4 were non refurb all matching, used/issued ( lot of blueing wear near muzzle, prob from cleaning protector). Their regular sks, are, some refurb some not, some blued some Parkerized mag not matching are on sale for $199 but will be going back to the regular price of $239. No more deals!

Some, NOT "most", have replacement barrels. Most 1951's are NOT chrome lined.

But they all shoot well.

I have a question I just purchased a 54 with laminate stock with all matching numbers but the gas tube had a faint electro pencil matching number on the gas tube. Was this replaced or did they start to mark the gas tube around that time. The rifle looks unissued and not fired by the previous owner. Thanks.

From what I heard, they are electropencilled because the metal was to thin to stamp and it would distort the inside of the tube!
