i have been thinking of buying or building a super light rifle in a standard caliber .no magnums .i have looked at the sako carbonlites and the kimber montanas.i would like something under 6.5 pounds with scope .

Keltec SU 16F is 4.5 lbs unloaded, only comes in 5.56 (yes rated for the military ammo so can also shoot .223). Not sure the caliber is high enough for you but it is incredibly light.

Kimber Hunter, Howa Alpine, Weatherby Back Country.

The first being a stainless controlled round feed in a injection molded stock. The others being cerakoted pushfeeds in Bell and Carlson stocks.

Carbonite in 308 with the set trigger would be my choice, I wish they came with a 16" barrel option though.

I played around with the kimber Adirondack but didn't like it at all, bolt operation is very sloppy compared to the sako and the non detachable magazine is another strike against it for me

How lightweight is lightweight?
Browning A-bolt Ti, Wby. Ultra lite , Remington Ti or how about the Remington Mountain Rifles Or could not a Kimber Super America in 270WSM even be considered lightweight, no?
To broad of a question to be answered if someone was asking me.

I've owned a few kimber Montanas, but they don't fit me that good. Lightest rifle you can build with a readily available action is a Remington model seven according to my research. I am in the process of building one. I think if you picked up a model seven or a tikka, and drop it in a wildcat stock you would do pretty well. I have a few lightweights that do fit me good, but this one I am working on will be a packing rifle for sheep and a caribou hunt.

I have a T3 Compact sitting in a McMillan Edge and it's 6 3/4lbs loaded with a vx3 1.75-6. My experiences with Kimber have been very negative,
