Bought a Brno Md. 1 dated 1957 about 2 weeks ago from Ward's Auctions and can't say that I've ever been more pleased with both the gun and professionalism of Ward's. Everything was received in timely fashion through CP and with excellent packaging.

The md. 1 is in excellent condition except that it's missing both front and rear sights, however, has an excellent condition Weaver scope mounted that was zeroed in quite nicely and looks like it just came out of the factory box. The thing shoots and cycles like a dream with cheap ammo, and the action is very smooth. I can't complain about the 3 mags either...

Anyone else like the Md. 1 just the same? How do they compare with 2-5?

Anyone have the sights for sale?

The Brno 22 rifles all of them modesl 1 to 5 are fabulous rifles. Truly great quality and great shooters. Probably 1 of the best rimfire rifles available and for the most part priced very well although they are gaining value of late.
You will enjoy it!! The metal 10 round mags can be finicky but the 5 rounders work flawlessly.

I have the whole series of Brno .22s from model 1 through 5 and have to say the #1s are my favourites. For some reason I just prefer the 2 stage trigger even though the #2s and #4s have the "improved" and much more adjustable single stage triggers similar to the CZ452s.
Unfortunately, the go to guy for parts in the US is now out of business but apparently there is someone in the Czech Republic that sells CZ / Brno parts. I can't remember the sellers name but a few people on the rimfirecentral site have dealt with him. If you find a rear sight make sure it is for a #1 or early #5 as the later #5 sight looks identical but uses a slightly smaller dovetail in the barrel.
Your 1957 dated #1 must be one of the very last ones produced as production of the #2 and #5 started in 1956 /57.
The #5 is essentially a #2 receiver with a #1 barrel.

I recently acquired a #5 from 1958 in pristine condition. Only had it out to the range once but it is indeed a very special shooter. Mine is scoped so fingers-crossed it is capable of the .22 challenge.

I bought a minty BRNO 2E last year, and the rifle brings a smile to my face even looking at it in the safe. lol So far, I've shot it with open sights only.

Great to hear. Brno rifles have a reputation for being well-made. That is remarkable. I have to ask what constitutes "very accurate" here, and what is the "cheap ammo"?

I'd be curious too. I know my 452 Varmint exceeds my own expectations with cheap ammo (CCI Blazer) but having never scoped my 2E, I'm curious about what it might be capable of. Either way, it's a nice pc. of craftsmanship that works the way I need it to. Only problem is that it's almost too nice to use. Almost. :)

Since the Md. 1 is so nice to shoot I had to compare it to a "new to me" 452 LUX that I just picked up. Im guessing the new Lux will be accurate too, but the overall craftsmanship will not be as good.

Was talking with a friend today about what model he prefers with him saying the 5's have a better trigger mechanism compared to the 1. Maybe, I'll have to try them all out for myself just to make sure...

Anyone have one for sale?

I love slim rimfire sporters, I think I have about 40 now ( and I've probably let double that # go), but out of all of them, the Brno model 1 is still my favorite. Check Rimfire Central for a ton of good information.

Thanks, I will do that. Do you know anything about that Mauser that's on the EE now?

If you're talking about the 201, they are very nice rifles, I had a deluxe in 22 magnum, very accurate. I didn't care for them for two reasons, i) Very hard to load as a single shot, 2) Very difficult and expensive to find magazines. They are interesting though, they have front locking lug, like a centerfire.

Post some pics!
Love my #5, one of my "won't ever sell" guns.
Would love a 1-4 one day maybe when the kids move out and I can have 2 more gun rooms lol

Yes, the ones up on the EE are very nice. I'm tempted!

NPhillips, does your #1 have a rounded or squared off ejection port? In your picture it looks rounded although it might just be the shadow. With the 1957 date I am wondering if you have a transition rifle with a #2,5 receiver and a #1 barrel.

I have a very similar rifle, on the barrel it says "Model 1", but it has a model 5 action. As previously stated, they are transitional rifles. I love my, cool rifles and probably one of the more rare variants. Enjoy it, you scored!
