Bear attack

I've been bluff charged by a black bear 3 times in the past month. In my back yard LOL now the fugger keeps his distance when he passes thru.
I dunno what it is but since i got charged by the wolves a few years ago, bears react very differently. That or they know i ain't taking any bull;#### and they should move along LOL
I've had more close calls with predators in the past 3 years than I have posted about but I've been spending a crap load more time in the bush as well.
play safe out there and BE the top of the food chain ;)

I believe if bear hunting he legally needs hunter orange unless in a tree stand, using a bow does not remove that.

Lets see how much crap he gets in for this video.

Lucky guy, if he was hunting them you would think there would have been a draw in there at some point, that bear is not that far away.

He looks to be native. No license or blaze orange requirements for native hunters.

It's a crime that Wilderness carry isn't a readily available option for bow hunters. May not have made a difference in this situation here, but in general...

In this case, there is no doubt in our minds that had he not shot the bear or had a smaller calibre rifle, the hunter would have suffered grievous bodily harm or death,”...

Yes because had the hunter been using a 300 win mag, a 375 H&H or a .30-06 and hit that bear in a vital organ at ten yards, it would have just shook it off........

Lt. Col. Alphin, founder of A-Square would concur -

Art Alphin was a salesman ....

if my late friend Don Heath was able to use with success a 9.3x62 for back up on elephant hunt i do not see how a 375hh can t work .....

Since there's no way of replicating the circumstances or shot placement, there's no way to tell for sure if a smaller calibre would have done the same job. The .444 is not a powerhouse, it's just a slightly elongated .44 mag. Given a choice, I'd pick my 9.3x62 over the .444 any day.

While the 444 doesn't have the power/flat shooting appeal of a belted mag or the ability to load as heavy as the 45-70, there is more to it than it being a slightly elongated 44 mag.

The 9.3x62 is certainly more versatile, as are several other chamberings. But the fact the 444 under 100 yards performs as well as a 30-06 or 358win puts it in a category well above the 44mag, and for many typical hunting situations it is "powerhouse" enough.

Just my 2c

Dummy should of shot !!!! And then got a second arrow ready and shot again ...... ya ya
Never mind tab. Ba. Nac

Sadly true. What's the threshold now, 1/64th "Metis" or "First Nations" to be able to exercise your "traditional" subsistence rights in Ontario?

Wouldn't be a CGN thread without these comments. For the most part, I think he did well in evading most of the CGN "but why not me" whining.

I'd also say very close to "traditional hunting" methods. And damn good composure, all things given, to boot.

...... speaking of whining.

Your first noted "quote" was a factual statement/observation, with zero negative inflection....... geeeeez

Awesome girly death scream from hunter...lmao thanks for that Laugh2

The one truly close encounter I had with a bear likely resulted in me doing something similar..... but also likely at a higher octave and longer....I certainly could not have collected myself that quickly and continued the video..... and my experience was nowhere near as intense, in fact it looks like the hunter jammed his bow in the bear's mouth... and I was carrying a rifle file and admittedly froze...

Can you relate your experience where you remained "grizzly adams" level stoic in a similar situation?

Learned his lesson???

He was bowhunting, and handled the sitiation before/during/after the encounter just about as you should.

You need to stick with rifle hunting from elevated box- blinds.
