Just read about these and want one BAD. Any dealers in Canada stock them (and brass/dies/bullets😁😁)
They are like having a bolt action 450Marlin. Anyone have one?? Dealers feel free to chime in if you have one or can bring them in. I have another friend interested also!!!!

I've been thinking about scoring one of these as well.

I have thousands of .452" bullets and several lbs of appropriate powder and have primers on the shelf so just need rifle, extra mags, dies and brass.

I couldn't care less what the machining marks etc are like if it shoots accurately and functions properly.

Just remembered the build quality of these isn't great, lots of tool marks, cheap Savage Axis type stocks, not real smooth action or trigger.

I am so tired of gun snobs constantly disrespecting entry level guns, mostly for no reason other than they are entry level. I don't comprehend why someone would pay 2, 3 or 4 times as much money when the accuracy is essentially the same. Same thing with cars... I've been in $80K+ cars and sure they are nice - but why pay a 200, 300 or 400% (or more) premium for essentially cosmetic differences?

Call the waaahmbulance lol.
I have cheaper entry level guns then the American that are better made, so no, it's not a snob situation. Rem 783 has very little to fault for $100-$200 less depending on model and is just as accurate. The Axis is pretty much the equivalent of the American, at least shares most of it's shortcomings, is much cheaper and more accurate generally, and surprisingly well finished.
So by your logic why buy an American when the 783 is better quality, and Axis is similar quality, both equally accurate, both for less money?
And for really well made and accurate the Browning AB3 it a $600 entry level gun. Vanguard and Howas also blow the American away for entry level.

I read the op and I didn't see him asking for reviews on the American in general. Did I miss something? Sounds to me like he wants an American in .450 BM and wants to know where to find one. He also wants to hear from those who have the rifle in the cal he wants. Comparisons to 783,axis etc, are irrelevant as none of these is chambered in .450.

Thank you nomad. Already decided on the American for the chambering exclusivity. Got a p.m. telling me where to get one. Working on it as we speak. I have not met a single person using a .450 B.M. curious about its real world performance and any reloading tips/tricks for it

Magpul is making the Hunter chassis for this platform, should be out in the fall. I'm torn between waiting for that or tossing mine in an LSS, or waiting for an ESS which is rumored to be in the works as well. I would really like a folding stock to go with mine. From what I've read it's somewhere above a trapdoor 45-70 load but quite a bit behind a heavy loaded 45-70. 250gn 2200ft/sec 2700ft/lbs. I've heard of people resizing 458cal projectiles to gain a few more options. Let us know when you get it, I'm planning on getting one eventually.

Neat little rifle to do a build-up on, but fer me I would want it in .458 SOCOM so as to launch 400-500 gr. hardcast bombs.

The .450 BM is a neat round in it's own right & is an accurate bugger. Folks wanting one of these should pester
Prophet River, IrunGuns and our Ruger distributors to see if they are expecting any soon.

A little defensive are we? I never mentioned ruger in my post. You just assumed I was referring to ruger.

I disagree with many of your ascertions above with regards to accuracy, etc... And to say the fit and finish of the axis ( Savage - the KING of sloppy bolts) is superior to the American is literally laughable.

Heck!
Get a rifle custom chambered in 458x2inch American.
-And also get cheap brass for it, cutting down non reloaders discard of 7mm Rem Mag & 300 Win Mag, etc.
-Better selection of bullets. Some of them even premium quality!
-Exact same primers/powder/bullets as 45-70/450 M/458 SOCOM.(sort of)

win win win

Axis finish....

American Finish...

LOL ...... Get over it. Hitzy is no "gun snob"! He can slum with the worst of us.

Maybe a internet based public discussion forum isn't for you if you're tired of different opinions.

Several of the bushmaster threads have predicactably taken this same path, with several posters suggesting other cartridges a d rifles that one should buy because they are"better" without realizing that the 450 bushmaster exists in a bolt action to fill a niche market in the US and Canada is just receiving the leftovers of that demand.

Yeah,

But it would be nice to hear about something other than the same 1 bad American he had.

Here's a picture of a not badly finished one:

Heck, my Scout has the same lines on the outside of the barrel...... when ya get bored you can play a nice little DJ sounding tune with your fingernail..... ;)
