RCMP "Information Regarding 80% Lowers"

Nope. My order was just cancelled on me.

I feel bad for the vendors, who may have just taken a big loss here.
Try Dlask Arms. On sale right now too!

My fault. I spent too long seeing that open window, thinking "no need to buy, as long as they're on sale"

Thank you, RCMP! Proving me right, once again.

Nobody has to answer these questions if they're too basic, but what exactly has changed with this announcement? Has the status of AR-15s changed if you own one? What exactly IS an
80% blank?

I don't hold an RPAL, but have considered it for some time with an eye on owning an AR15 one day. Judging by everyone's reactions, this is bad even if you own a complete AR15...but how?

This doesn't change anything about AR-15's - only 80% lowers.

The document specifically says what it defines a "blank or 80% lower".. they make it clear as mud.

This is just a horrible step towards something worse it seems like.. Does not make any logical sense.

I just tell everyone to get your RPAL - buy buy buy restricted's while you can.

They argue one can machine the lower to accept a full auto group making it an M16 essentially and a prohibited firearm....

And what's to stop a current AR owner from modifying an existing receiver to accept a full-auto trigger group from an M.16 rifle?

Any item -- be it a firearm or otherwise -- is not illegal until it is COMPLETED as an illegal product. An 80% completed receiver for an AR.15 has an equal opportunity to be completed as a legal and Restricted firearm as it does to become a Prohibited device. Yet it is the potential for misconstruction has reached the breaking point.

Do we live in a Minority Report state now, where Precogs can predict who will break a law, and what events will transpire in that regard? Have the Liberals and the RCMP begun using psychics to foresee what actions a previously law-abiding citizen might possibly take given any random scenario? Can they arbitrarily arrest someone because they have the potential to contravene the law?

It was always my understanding that the RCMP, and indeed every other law enforcement agency, was mandated to do just that: enforce existing laws. When did the ability to create new laws on their own pass down from the Parliament we elected to the civil servants who are appointed to their positions? It's about time we take a good hard look at how this country is being mis-managed.

It would be good to know how many criminals the RCMP have just created. How many 80% AR15 lowers are out there? This is ridiculous. I use to respect the RCMP.

Exactly. This is approaching the scenario beyond 'thought crime' or uncompleted and un contemplated illegal act based on potential and possibility of being able to commit them.

I walk into a store. At that moment I am an active shoplifter by merely potential and possiblity.

I have a rock. Will I throw it or build a house with it?

Who can take that chance?

Thanks Nick. I read it 3x before asking the question! lol Even if I don't fully grasp what an "80%" blank means I DO grasp that it's the RCMP chipping away the right to own an AR-15. On another forum I frequent, whenever anyone slams the RCMP there is a member there who insists that they don't "make up the rules, they enforce rules/laws that already exist". As much as I don't follow the AR thing much, even I can recognize that today's announcement strikes me as being a REAL (REAL REAL) big stretch. Instead of them spinning their big heads out of control on what MIGHT be done to alter a gun making it a prohib, why don't they (for the love of God) focus their efforts on real crimes, on those intent on committing them, and leave LAW ABIDING gun owners alone? Because we're the low-hanging fruit.

Turd-knuckles is probably smoking a fatty, and patting himself on the back for this one. "Canada a safer place" factor on this one? 0/10

It is barely one week after MP Goodale introduced legislation to 'back door' a long gun registry.
Two months ago the RCMP announces a "New" AR-15 standard.
The bravo sierra surrounding the 10/22 "high capacity" magazines.
The AR-15 petition (over 25,000 signatures) was completely ignored...yet not one has been used in a shooting incident in Canada.
There's NO COINCIDENCE HERE...just one more step by the Liberals to move the AR-15 from it's original NR status years ago - to what they've always wanted it to be - prohibited.

How long do you think it will be until the RCMP request dealer information about everyone who bought an 80% so they can track them down ?
